I was expecting way more from this Merlot; I always get excited about trying a new wine but this one was a bit bitter, and that was surprising maybe because the ratings are high for this merlot.

I love it- I had it at Purple Cafe - now I got it at a wine store. It is a fine Malbec. http://www.altocedro.com.ar/en/home.html

This wine is complete from front to finish, and its unique character offers a suppleness on the palate that few Merlots achieve. This wine’s distinctiveness lies in the lush, velvety tannins that expand from the initial sip and develop with richness through the finish.

winemaker's notes: The 2006 Merlot is a single-vineyard wine from the Duncan family's Soda Canyon Ranch in Napa Valley. It has a dark ruby color and a nose of black cherry and dark chocolate. On the palate, it is spicy and full-bodied, with a long finish of cedar and berry fruit. Twomey Cellars
