This wine tastes four times more expensive than it costs. The first thing I noticed was the deep color that hints at the extracted flavor. It smells fruity and funky the way a cantaloupe tells you it's just right (no melon hints in the wine). On tongue, black cherry and loganberry start the melange while the mouth is coated with both furry fruit and silky tobacco. This is fun.

What a wonderful surprise from Livermore. Uncorking the wine filled my nose with smells of ripe berries and wet clay. In the glass the wine is a very inky dark purple. Swirling and sniffing revealed gobs of dark fruit with hints of bell pepper and green olives. The wine felt silky in mouth and tasted heavily extracted with gobs of blackberry, black currant, and black cherry (like the sweet ones in Cherry Garcia ice cream). The black pepper and mocha highlights complimented the night's lasagna beautifully. Fat Boy is a perfect name for this well mannered 15.8% alcohol beast.

A guilty pleasure at this price. Thick and furry on the tongue with black fruit in the middle. Closer to rhubarb pie than cherry pie.

This was my introduction to Insignia and still holds a place in my heart. The blend really brings out the winemaker's artistry. Complex, fruity, balanced, and drinkable. This wine made lots of friends in Malta.

Winemaker's association with Caymus keeps this cab consistently good. One of my favorites under $15

vada's Review:

For under $50 US this wine stands up to some of Napa's snootier brands. This is not in the class of Caymus Special Select but I do prefer it over regular Caymus and the Silver Oak Alexander Valley.
