I teach economics, and in my spare time have various habits/addictions, on of which is collecting and drinking wines. My favorites are Pinot Noir, Cabernet and Riesling. dislikes are overextracted wines, and overoaked wines.

Added Oct 7, 2009 at 11:18pmPurchased 3/15/08 at Bottle Pass Liquors in Fraser, CO for 17.27. A lighter styled PN, but well made, with light purple color, raspberries, plum and spice flavors and a litlle vanilla in the background. Definitely worth the price.

Added Oct 7, 2009 at 11:11pmThis wine was puchased 4/25/09 at Argonauts in Denver for 18.36. Use October 2009. A delightful wine with bratwurst, potato salad and sauerkraut. This wine is totally dry, ample Gewurz spice, a little ginger and good acidity. Light bodied compared to Tannahill Gewurz from WA state or the Alsatian product, but still very true to form and with more varietal chararacter than some of the cheaper West Coast Gewurz.

Added Oct 7, 2009 at 10:56pmThis is Brown Derby closeout from a while back (9/8/98). We drank this on a ski week over spring break (3/11/09) with Duck Montmorency. This was a lovely wine and a nice combination with the sweetness of the sauce and fatiness of the duck. Elegant with spicy Pinot Noir flavors. definitely not full-bodied, as in CA Pinot Noir, but plenty of fruit, although light on the palate without being thin or vapid. This is what Red Burgundy is all about, fresh and clean with good fruit without being imposing or alcoholic. Grand Cru Burgundy is a treat.

Not for those who favor hefty wines but a great example of how to balance all the components of a wine (fruit, oak, acidity, alcohol)

Added Sep 26, 2009 at 11:40pmI tasted this wine with chicken cordon bleu and creamy sweet potato casserole, with typical pinot noir spices (nutmeg, cloves) in the casserole. Wine is very earthy, burgundian in nose, with notes of fresh cream, brie cheese with cherry in the background. Light brick red color. Flavors matched nose but quite austere with bitter finish when first tasted. Much more smooth when tasted with meal. Definitely an austere wine that needs a creamy dish to soften the flavors. Drink up if you have this or, likely, other 01 Burgundies.
