    jaws1970's Review:

delicious. mellow. i could even taste it through my mouthful of spicy porky conchiglie. have been slurping pinot noir for the entire 2008 - and completely forgot about cabernet sauvignon. it was a dinner gift so i don't know how much it is. we ended up drinking copious amounts of proseco. and one rjoja and one pinot noir - neither of which we could taste with my killer pasta.

I had another lesson with my boss, the one who introduced me to Chateau Margaux, in 2002 when those Barclays bankers were sacked for expensing vintage Petrus and d'Yquem in London. I asked her what was so great about dessert wine that it would cost that much? And she proceeded to show me on our next trip -- where she ordered d'Yquem and foie gras for me. Unbelievable. For the layperson, it's like the perfection of peanut butter and jelly together.

Another French wine which was introduced to me by my brother in law, who got me hooked on Lynch Bages. He grew up in Bordeaux, so he should know. I tried this with him in Asia at a wine tasting and it was my favorite of the night. And, because of its price, is a bottle I might actually buy myself on a regular basis.

    jaws1970's Review:

The first and last time I ever had Cristal was at my sister's wedding in Maui in 1996 although not sure whether it was 1989 or another year. A few bottles were ordered by a close friend of the family and he gave the couple a grand toast. It is simply my favorite champagne. Up until that time I had tried DP and earlier in college drank Veuve when we wanted to be extra fancy. I wouldn't say no now to DP if it was offered to me. But really just don't like the taste of Veuve Cliquot.

Willamette Valley and Russian River are my new favorites. Maybe because they are the dernier cri in restaurants here in DC so I have tried them more. They are amazing and exciting, although I am still not convinced that the price inflation of wines from this region is justified. Is a $400 bottle of Russian River really worth the same as a Margaux? In any case, I just tried a Pinot Noir blend at Proof DC that is to die for and I am trying to track down the name of that bottle. When I do find it, I am buying a case.

One of my favorites. Which I probably buy more than the others - less expensive years - because it is more accessible. And I tend to see it more in DC than some of the other Bordeaux (outnumbered in popularity by California & Oregon here)- which are very expensive and look like they've been kept in a open box in the bright sun for a couple of years.

My boss - who was trying to educate my palate, but who didn't drink wine herself - bought a bottle of this for me while on a business trip at the bar at the Four Seasons hotel in New York. At that point in my life I'd probably only ever tried one serious Bordeaux.. in college. Anyway it was transporting. I couldn't finish it however, as valiantly as I tried, and she offered the rest of the bottle to the waiter. I haven't tasted it since.

I tried my first VT at my repas de l'annee $400 lunch at Lucas Carton around 2000. Do not remember the year of the bottle -- but it was amazing. Since then have tried subsequent years and liked them all.

Had this one at the Daily Catch in northend of Boston. Amazing with a huge platter of lobster fra diavolo.
