July 2007
Buttery and heavy, and a bit sour: not in an altogether bad way, but not in an altogether good one either.

Tasty, fruity, well-rounded. Not exactly breaking the oak planks over my head, but jabbing me in the ribs with them a bit. A solid table-wine, but not a write-home-about-it experience.

Redgate Rosé 2005
Solid rose (bearing in mind that I do not like Sweet Things), tastes of strawberries. It, still chilled, went quite well with dark chocolate towards the end of a day of American Le Mans at the race track.

This is a downright sticky wine. It holds onto the inside of your mouth, which is only a problem if you don't have some water to wash it the rest of the way down... but don't do that in a hurry. The flavor develops through figs and olives while it hangs out there. Almost definitely a wine that I like better for being a smoker.

A quality bordeaux in the "modern" style, meaning lots of fruit and beating your nose about the head and shoulders. Tending towards the plums more than the cherries was nice... I'm giving this one more glass than I would have normally because it came in comparison with "classic" style bordeaux from the '80s, so I believe that I'm unfairly biased by it's being clearly the third of three.

Solid chard, and it's red-like behavior is interesting, and it manages to avoid the over-fruited and over-oaked behaviors that turns me off chardonnay at large (especially from the US).

The bottle I had had some decay in the cork, but no damage to the wine. It was a bit thin at first, but refreshingly tart (went well with grilled flank steak), and it opened to a landscape-scale expanse after about 40 minutes of decanting. It may not be possible to purchase this wine any more, but if you can get your hands on a glass, it's worth it.

An excellent wine that's only gotten better with age. It needs a little air to open up, but it's broad, refreshing, and tasteful (as in, plenty of taste, not as in decorous). It's towards the end of "classic" Bordeaux, but the bottle I had (kept just in a basement, having taken some account for climate, but not in a cave, per se) was lively, the cork in perfect shape, et cetera.

$7.49
The blend, at least in this vintage, is 65% merlot and 35% tempranillo. The former actually does a nice job of rounding out and softening the latter. It's great with anything coming off the grill. Avoid decanting, or even letting too much air get at it, as it turns tinny (or, really, tastes more of iron than of tin), but at the $5.99 I paid in Delaware, it's a fine deal.
