Tasty and aromatic, but possibly a bit too acidic or tannic for some.

Kinderwood Merlot 2003
What RBoulanger said by way of the Wine Messenger holds overall. I'm having a bit of trouble finding the spices, but that's probably just me.

Everything Stephen said, plus it tastes as if the vintner was confused about which part of the barrel to use. That is, oak vs. iron bands.

Giordano Chianti 2004
gr: I wouldn't wash my hands with it.RBoulanger: A real winner! ... Do you dare try the 2005?In fairness, this was probably passable around the time it was bottled, but is well past its prime now, if not actually corked. That said, it tasted noticeably bad. Twice (once with pork, once with cheap pizza). So the garbage disposal got the rest of the bottle.

Pleasantly fruity and light, especially with red meat or dishes heavy in tomatoes (it went well with lasagna), but it's a bit heavy in the wrong ways, sticking to the tongue, and perhaps overly tannic, but I was drinking this 2003 early in 2008, so it may just not age well (outside of a cellar?). I seem to recall more recent vintages not being marred in these ways.
