Perhaps Cono Sur has been pushing the envelope for better and better Pinot's from Chile for years but Villard is perhaps an example of something with more individual characeter. This wine is positively goloso, complex and yes delicious. As Chile has planted nearer to the coast for a decade now, and continues to open up new areas of fresher reds (syrah and cab franc as well) do not be reticent and you wil be blown away some of the time anyway. This is a solid bottle of Pinot that perhaps help to shed mystery on where Chilean pinot is going -- early on it was so typical and now the coast is the limit! Perhaps the only better example of pinot was a Garage effort from a few years ago http://www.garagewineco.cl though I have not yet seen any Garage Wines reviewed on snooth ?

If you can find it -- awesome. Very fine tannins lean and gripping with generous fruit that opens slowly after decanting. Decant this wine.

15 Syrah 2006
This is a mysterious wine that shows itself gradually over time. On the nose it has a subtle floral note to begin haps plummy cherries and in the mouth there is big cherry fruit and blueberries (not the jammy blueberries of Zin but tighter more acidic blueberries that are really quite funky and rewarding.) It has a smokey quality with chocolaty notes and a finish that is meaty / bacony notes from warm climate Chilean Syrah. Drink with a stew with merken if you can find it.There are some down to earth family snapshots of the making of this wine on : http://www.garagewineco.cl/15

Wonderful wine now drinking fine 7 years out. Great colour. Ripe dark black fruit rimmed with hints of plush earthiness, bitter chocolate and toasted oak. The younger vintages have more interesting toast to them great grip with focus, with suave toast carrying the dark currant and blackberry as coffee (less in younger vintages), minerally. This is mountain cab from Chile at almost its finest. (Tiene etanol muy elegante)

Sena 2004
Sena is plush wine with aromas of leather, cedar, dark dark cherry fruit that is a really great bottle of wine worthy of cellaring and cherishing but... this wine has a note that is reminiscent of ripe earth-- ie some will say it smells like poop from a barnyard. It is not a defect but its earthiness is either loved or unloved (try a bottle before buying a case.
