this is a wine for Fonterutoli buffs, a pioneer wine as I call it. As its name suggests inky. its not the standard chianti by any means but a blend. I walked on the Mazzei Fonterutoli lands each morning when I lived in the area and came to know its chalky vineyards well. This is a wine with staying power. vegetal yes, with smokiness a little spice and tobacco and cherry fruit, its a big wine, and Merlot is expressed in its best way here. its a wine to pull out with a steak and with friends who are not new to complex wines.
