    Dipinti la Vis Lagrein Trentino DOC 2008

    The Lagrein varietal is indigenous to Trentino (far north Italy) and is made using grapes harvested from 15-20 year old vines. This is a charming medium body red wine. Soft tannins, cherry/berry on the nose, deeper spicy berry with hints of leather on the palate. Served at 60 F, after resting open for a bit. A STEAL at specs at 11 bucks, taste is of a wine costing at least 2-3 times that.

    A well blended mix of 35% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 15% Mourvedre. Nice nose, broad but not long finish, but what is there is nice. A wine with some muscle, a little smoke, pepper and ample dark fruit. Wine spec gave it a 92, a steal at under 15 bucks. If you like wines done in the southern French style, you will like this. A great summer wine - think BBQ al fresco.

    A deep purple, garnet interesting blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Carmenère. Smoke, oak, dark berry fruit, some pepper, spice and some earthiness with nice lush mouth-filling tannins. Well balanced, but let it breath for a half hour in glass. Ready now, but this one will cellar nicely. Under 20 bucks from SPECS.

    Outstanding value. A nicely balanced wine with soft cherry notes mixed with plum, tobacco and hints of oak. Velvety in the mouth with a nice finish. Under 10 bucks at Costco. Will be buying a case of this one.

    Deep inky ruby red goodness. Dark fruit, cocoa, and leather on the nose. Flavors of lush black cherry, plum, pepper, and a hint of rustic vanilla. Satisfying finish. Medium / full-bodied wine. Good fruit, tannins and bright acidity gives this wine excellent structure. Food friendly - paired with steak, baked potatoes and grilled onions tonight. A keeper. About 12 bucks at Specs.

    A lovely Malbec, found this at Costco. Reminds me of the 2007, (the 2008 was not as good). Dark berry, oaked just right, plum and smoke. Just nice. Been waiting for something like this - a case buy is in my near future.

    Actually a blend of mostly cab with small amounts of Merlot, Cab Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot this is an outstanding cab for the money. One that drinks like a fine bordeaux. Spice, leather, currant layered with hints of smoke and vanillin. Medium/full bodied with balanced fruit/acid/tannins. Medium finish. Drinks like a cab costing much more. Good now or hold.

    Smooth on the attack, full meaty mouth feel, medium long finish. The high percent of Syrah is right up front in your face. Nicely balanced with just the right amount of acidic bite to make you want more. 93 pts by Wine Advocate - a keeper. Drink now.

    Deep red, dark and lush. Spends 12 months in oak barrels and it "shows". Hints of cherries, lush berries, a ton of vanilla and a nice medium-long finish. A good everyday drinking wine.

    Good solid Cab. Tight structure, nicely balanced - not too tannic. Cherry/berry fruit with hints of coffee bean/cocoa. Nice clean finish. Let it breath a for a bit. A steal at under 10 bucks.
