After all the hype of this drinking like a $70 cult wine, a friend and I bought a few bottles at Stew's in Norwalk, CT for $22. We are both big CA cab lovers, and were both thoroughly unimpressed. Sweet, almost to the point of being cloying. Very little in the way of mouthfeel, and the finish was imperceptable. Think I'll use it to make veal marsala.

After having read very good things about the 2005 vintage I added it to my list on my most recent shopping spree. I didn't find the 2005, but did find the 2006, so decided to give it a try and bought two bottles, even though at $15.99 it was priced decidedly higher than I had seen on recent web postings. I really wanted to like this wine, and after a first taste I thought it had promise. As time wore on, however, it became increasingly flabby, and within an hour I was pushing it on to my merlot-loving wife. Definitely fruit forward, with a Welch's like candor, I am going to reserve the second bottle for, oh, s'mores in front of the campfire sometime this summer. I don't see it getting much better with time. My suggestion is smoke 'em if you got 'em.

I have had the pleasure of drinking this wine on two separate occasions and found it to be steller both times. Can only see it improving with age. Enjoy it with a well marbled steak.

I first tried this wine 5 years ago at a blind tasting where it easily defeated all others. The tasting was supposed to be for bottles $20 or less, but someone snuck in this $40+ gem. I guess it's no wonder it won. I recall it being fantastic at the time, a little more fruit forward than most cabs, with a tremendous, silky finish. I found a bottle this past summer (2007) at auction and was very disappointed that the bottle seemed well past its prime, with a complete loss of the fruit which had once made this so palatable. Although still drinkable it's now a $20 bottle. Hopefully the bottle I most recently tried was stored in all the wrong conditions, leading to its demise.

Not quite the mouthfeel I was looking for, but think it will need a few more years to develop. Harsh tannins initially but mellowed in the open bottle after about an hour. I don't think cab is Peju's star.

On a recent trip to Napa boutique wineries, this juicy, seductive and mouthwatering star came up second only to it's 2004 younger brother. Suggest decanting for an hour or two as it's a little tight. Can see this maturing to it's full potential in 4-5 years.
