    dddunn's Review:

I recently got my hand on several bottles of this vintage, and to be honest, i was a little spectacle about how this wine would hold up after 35 years. Wow! What an amazing experience this bottle turned out to be. I drank the bottle over a 90 minute period and was absolutley amazed how this bottle evolved. I let it decant for about 15 minutes before I tried my first sip and was disappointed. Very thin and acidic and a little corky. At the 25 minute mark the mouth feel became luscious. The silky quality that I've learned can only come after some decades on its side. Cassis and licorice were full and bright, with no trace of cork. And the nose had hints citrus orchard and raspberry. At 40 minutes the nose became more rose. Very strong floral notes. Almost potpourri, but not in an unpleasant way. The acidity realy balanced itself out and the licorice was replaced by leather and blueberry. The silky quality was even better. At 60 minutes, the nose became more orange than anything else, with hints of the floral notes previously prominent. Over the next 30 minutes the wine started deconstructing a little bit, and lost some of its layers, but the flavor components continued to change. Some gameness and very ripe fruit started to come to the forefront and the blueberry became more leather. As we finished the bottle at the 90 minute mark, the mouth feel was the best it had ever been, and nose was almost gone but had an incredibly pleasant floral subtlety. If I was to really focus on the flavor, with my eyes closed, I got and almost Kool-Aid sweeness at the back of my palate and a classic Zin fruitiness. The ripeness was perfect, with no hint of the over ripness from before. i wish I had a magnum of this to see what else the bottle would have yielded. The next one I open, I'll make sure to savor it for at least hours. This was certainly one of the best bottles I've had this year.

Very nice, supple bottle. The balance is really spot on, and hints of chocolate and ripe blackberry make this a delightful experience. Light floral notes on the nose. Light Tannins and medium long developing finish.

I really like Canto Blends from Luna. 2002 is very Sangiovese heavy and tastes it. Merlot also comes screaming through, but the Cabs seemingly take back seat on this one and add a very nice subtlety, more apparent int the long finish. The years in the bottle have mellowed the mouth feel and have made this a very round compelling experience. Pair with Italian foods with tomato and garlic. Also works with desserts with chocolate and dairy.

Very nice glass. Great floral and fruity nose, and very pretty rich red color. Developed nicely over the hour the bottle was pouring. This one might be one to put a way for a while, but I'd buy some now.

Nice full bodied yummy CA Cabernet. I would guess that this one can really handle some cellar time. Tannins were very present and took a while to settle. Chocolate, cardamom and vanilla lingered on the palette. Definitely needs a decanting. I'd buy this one again.

I really like this wine. Yummy is the best way to describe it. i first tasted this at the winery in CA, and didn't expect the maple syrup to be so prominent. Sure to be a party favorite for those with a palette.

    dddunn's Review:

Surprisingly smooth and crisp. Perfect summer party wine. Tropical fruits are very forward but fall off quickly, leaving acidity. Not transcendent but worth a taste, and certainly worth the price.

Very big Syrah. Quite typical of Calaveras County Syrah, but more balanced than some of its brethren from the same appellation. Beautiful rich purple color. Nose is subtle, and a tad sweet. Big fruit, blueberry, spice, leather. This is worth a try. You won't be disappointed.

Classic. This is what I expect from the Medoc appellation. Solid structure and fantastic balance. I first served this at about 52 degress and the Merlot was very prominent. As it warmed to room temp, the Cab Sav and Can Franc became much more prominent.
