Who would have thought Pennsylvania was producing such mature, sophisticated reds? Beautifully balanced, warm, and round. A pleasing layer of licorice and subtle floral notes give this bottle character. A great, great food wine; a promising pair with pastas.

A serious, brooding red that will likely benefit from a couple more years of bottle age or some generous decanting. Pronounced notes of cocoa and spice are well integrated with berry fruit and apparent through a long, round finish.

A truly dry Rose; even some subtle and pleasing bitterness on the finish. Barbie pink in color, but as sophisticated on the palate as any Rose I've tasted. Will likely pair well with grilled fish. Believe it or not, this Rose may benefit from a little bottle age (or at least some decanting).

An incredible value (despite the ugly label), this is a dead-on California Cab. Plenty of grip and character (cedar, leather, even briary) but nicely balanced, almost remarkably so for this price point (often $10 at BevMo).

A little spicier, more tannic, and more earthy than Lynmar's 2006 Pinots (perhaps bottle age will mellow these flavors somewhat), but retains that juicy, mouth-watering raspberry quality that all Lynmar Pinots seem to posses, and still quite smooth.

Yummy, medium bodied Pinot, perfect with Roast Chicken. Rounds out with some time in the glass (or decant).

When friends ask me to recommend an inexpensive bottle that they can find at the local supermarket, the 05 Columbia Crest Merlot is always my first suggestion. It's reliable, food-friendly, and seems to please a range of palates (refined and... less refined). It's policy in my household to always have a bottle of Columbia Crest Merlot on hand.

With some decanting, drinks really well right now (March 2009).
