    azygos' Review:

Holding it's color well after 13 years, still deep red and youthful looking. I was concerned because some of these have turned up corked recently but this bottle seems in good condition.Nose is restrained for an Aussie Shiraz; pronounced violets and inkiness upon opening. Later, some typical fruit appears, a bit spicy and maybe a little heat. This in-your-face style Shiraz has definitely mellowed to a graceful wine. Nice acid and not overextracted. Well balanced and integrated. There is a distinct leather-licorice thing going on that I can't quite pin down but it really lends a nice finishI'm finishing the bottle now and it seems to get better with every sip. A tragedy!Just ekes in to the 'outstanding' rating; very enjoyable but mediocre QPR for $34.

Wonderful Cab; good structure with cherries, plums, currants & chocolate floating around. Soft and approachable, nice lingering aftertaste - drink it now! This wine is typically $40+ but closeout prices seem to be around $20, a real steal. I went back for 2 more.

  • azygos' Review:

Red as a brick and very smooth. This opened with some aggressive vegetal (cedary eucalyptus) character and a distinct dusty earthiness on the nose. It mellowed over the day to reveal more cassis/berry notes. Very nice on day 2, dead by day 3.

  • azygos' Review:

90% Merlot, 7% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot. Deep, dark color and a powerful nose of chocolate cherries and old bourbon barrels - this wine lets you know right away you're in for something special.Somewhere between a Cab and Merlot, this thing is BIG. Nice chocolate balanced with cherries and plum, maybe even a little coffee character. Drinking really well right now, fantastic on day 2 but fading by day 3. For $20 sale price this is a bargain.

    azygos' Review:

Ruby colored, all strawberry-blackberry preserves on the nose. A little oak, a hint of spice, balanced jammy sweetness, maybe even some mocha in there. Easy drinking, sky-high QPR at $20. Would pair well with food but great alone. A really fantastic Zin, worth having even if (like myself) you're not typically a Zinfandel fan.

Softly viscous and velvety. Some fruit and a hint of mocha on the nose. Chocolate and plums followed by some more chocolate. Almost too richly sweet and powerful at times. Lacks nuance but is unusual, distinct, and a good deal. Drinks great the next day too.
