Zuiko's Wines

This inexpensive auslese lived up to its price ($5). It lacks fruit, acid, complexity and extract. This wine is simple and has a candy-like nose. No botrytis. Probably Muller Thurgau. My rating 81.

I tasted this wine in early 2013 and the wine is past its prime. Lemon and lime nose and good acid balance are seen. This is a dry wine and the fruit is mostly gone. My rating-- 76.

Straw gold with a slight pink tinge, this wine is unusual in that it has a small amount of residual sugar (1%?). I'm guessing that the inspiration for this wine came from Germany (Rulander Kabinett). It has a peach, melon and green apple nose but is a bit shy. It needs a bit more acid to be balanced correctly. Falls apart with air, indicating a short future. My rating -- 88.... with 1 hour air-- 84

This wine has spice, plum and cinnamon but in moderate proportions. This is not a big style zin. It is enjoyable but not as rich as the 2008. My rating -- 85

This is a well extracted, rich style of Chardonnay. It has a good amount of fruit and is of excellent value. It is probably stainless steel fermented.There is some bottle variance here, as I just had one that I would rate an 83. It was much less fruit forward than the first bottle. My rating--- 83--87

This 2012 is acid balanced and has nice fruit. The nose is mostly lemon/lime with a bit of grapefruit. A very enjoyable wine. My rating -- 89

This nearly dry Feinherb is simple with a shy nose and light extract. Over priced and uninspiring. My rating -- 80

This low priced wine tastes that way. It is no bargain. It is flat, dull and thin with almost no nose or fruit. Short finish. I've been tasting Concannon wines since the 1972 vintage and must say that the last several bottles I've had were showing a bad trend in quality. I was at the winery a year ago and wasn't impressed with what I tasted. My rating --75

The central part of the Rheinhessen does not have as good a reputation for quality as the Rheinfront, however there are exceptions. This wine is one of those. Good acid balance, lots of fruit, ripeness and richness characterize this wine. It has a Rose petal and Gewurztraminer-like nose. Honeysuckle and honey dominate the pallet. The 2008 vintage was really nice in the Hessen, as seen in this wine. Not overly complex but enjoyable. Nice spicy/ floral mix. My rating -- 91

This is a rich QbA. Pretty fruit and moderately extracted. Nice perfume and apple nose. Very enjoyable. Nice finish. My rating -- 89. Has more fruit that any Feinherb.
