Violetstardom

Wine has become a recent passion of mine. I thought I was a "white" person, but now I'm becoming more accustomed to the complexities of "the reds". I love drinking wine with dinner, at home, and at my favorite Chicago wine bar.

Received this pinot as a gift, have never had a Chilean pinot before, but like some of their whites. Typical pinot translucency in the glass is always a great start. Initial nose was a little funky and earthy, but some bright cherries shined through. A few swirls in my mouth showed some tart cherries up front, some soil, and a touch of gaminess on the backend. Well balanced and interesting, I definitely like this pinot a lot. Keeps my interest and is palatable on its own, but definitely would show well with a great meal.

Conundrum has been on my radar to try for a year or so. Usually "white blends" aren't my style, as many seem unbalanced and lack the acidity I like. I finally bought a half-bottle to taste. It had a pretty golden color in the glass. I initially got some floral and spicy notes on the nose, it reminded me of a gewurtz, which is not typically a varietal I enjoy. The mouthfeel was a little viscous, tasted similar to the nose, some white flower and spice-again, reminding me of a lot of gewurtz. I couldn't find the breakdown of the varietals in this, but would be interested in finding out. ALthough it taste well-made and balanced with a smooth finish, it's still not my style and I wouldn't seek it out again. Plus the price seems a tad high for a blend.

Silky smooth, just like cashmere--the perfect name for this wine! Had this in the tasting room at Cline and loved it. Such finesse, this is definitely one of my favorite reds in a long time.

Vibrant spring green grass on the nose, tasted like I just bit into a bunch of fresh arugula--greens mixed with strong peppery notes. Very unique.

Pure grapefruit on the nose. Definite grapefruit flavors up front with other citrus flavors on the midpalate. Once it warmed in the glass I noticed a minerality on the backend, along with citrus rind. Good acidity and complexity for the price. Would definitely drink again.
