Added Oct 6, 2010 at 11:14amGood God, this is NOT Sangiovese! I've found SIX websites this morning that have Montepulciano the Grape confused with Montepulciano the City in Tuscany. The grape in Vin Nobile de Montepulciano IS Sangiovese. This wine - and everything else outside Tuscany that's labeled "Montepulciano" - is made from the Montepulciano grape, a lightrer-bodied red native to central and southern Italy. This wine is an outright masterpiece, aged for 24 months in French oak and held a year in the bottle before release. This is NOT second-hand info. I spoke with maurizio Marchetti and got it straight from him. It does this wine and this grape a remarkable dis-service when you call it a Sangiovese wine.
