Quite simply my favourite champagne. Hideously expensive, but worth every penny for sharing with someone you love for a special occasion. Beautiful full flavour.

Colheita port is not a well-understood phenomenon and is the sort of wine to serve to people who "don't like port" or who are not sure - it's likely to convert them to enthusiasts. Quinta do Noval make a very competent Colheita. Highly recommended.

This is a dessert wine to try out on people who "don't like dessert wine". It's sweet but not sickly - light, citrussy and goes well with any dessert. Well worth having a stock for the right moment.

Very good general-purpose white wine, great for aperitif or with food. Not too much oak, quaffs agreeably. Its price means it's not what I'd call excellent value for money, but it is worth spending the extra few pence on the bottle.

Very classy outfit, Angludet. Just missed out on Grand Cru status in 1855 (or whenever) and although described as Cru Bourgeois, their stuff is excellent. The 1989 is smooth and (if it's been kept well) drinking very well still. Quite expensiver, but worth it for a special occasion. I recommend the vineyard for a visit if you're in teh area.

Very competent French wine. If stored proerly, keeps very well. Typical left bank red Bordeaux, fairly heavy on the cabernet sauvignon, so shouldn't be drunk too young. Quite good value for money.

Competent Aussie Chardonnay. Quite oaky, serves well as an aperitif or with your typical white wine foods - fish, white meats, savoury courses
