Added May 9, 2008 at 3:01pmTasted May 2008: This wine has an intense, deep colour with some remaining purple and as yet no signs of degradation. The nose is quite powerful and foursquare for a Margaux, and although lacking in flavour and poise, there is some finesse and a fine perfume of red berries (including cherry and strawberry). On the palate the wine is rather subdued and chunky, but with a lot of extract and grip. The finish is dry, tannic, and with signs of overextraction, hence somewhat out of balance. Still, quite an impressive wine, but not a textbook Margaux. Needs more time; drink from 2010 through 2016.

Added May 8, 2008 at 5:17amTasted May 2008: Known for being one of the best Filhots of the last decades, this is indeed a very good wine. Lovely deep yellow colour with a touch of gold, yet not as deep as other 1990 Sauternes. In the bouquet and the taste, the major characteristics are elegance, balance and great purity. Moderately sweet, with excellent counterbalancing acidity, rather light but intensily flavoured. A true-to-type Filhot, delicious to drink by itself. Will keep for another decade.

Added May 5, 2008 at 5:24amTasted May 2008: Inexpensive wine with some qualities, but a very traditional style of Burgundy, rather tough-textured, dry and with barely any fruit, yet quite perfumed and with a hint of earthiness and some finesse. Light, mature colour. Certainly lacking body and class for this marvelous Burgundy vintage, but not without character. Drink soon.

Added Apr 15, 2008 at 4:29amTasted April 2008: A good wine for a 100% Cabernet sauvignon, yet by no means a great wine: dark colour, intense bouquet of ripe black currants, unfortunately also somewhat jammy; on the palate not as full as expected but rather athletic, delectable, and with oak and vanilla in the aftertaste. All in all a rather simple wine, monolithic, without finesse, elegance or character; moreover, this wine desperately needs food. For early drinking.

Added Apr 21, 2008 at 11:38amTasted April 2008: This is clearly a wine from young vines. Rather light colour with mature rim, gentle and perfumed nose with some ripe Syrah character, but a simple taste and a short, rather dry aftertaste. Could be any wine from a better Côte-du-Rhône village. Still, the wine is accessible, pleasant and quite good with food. For dinking, not for keeping.

Added Apr 15, 2008 at 3:15pmTasted October 2008: Terrific wine. Comparable to Chasse-Spleen but more elegant and deeper. An Haut-Médoc classic and quintessential Moulis. Only a shade of maturity in the colour, ripe cabernet-driven bouquet, a creamy texture in the mouth but with the typical Moulis acidity in evidence, and a long, tannic finish with a lot of suave oak and a whiff of black currants. Character and class. Drink now through 2015, or beyond (if kept in a cool cellar).

Added Apr 16, 2008 at 2:59pmTasted November 2007: Wonderful dry white wine, elegant and crisp, perfect weight and with an intense Mosel-Riesling character. Lovely acidity and overall balance from the beginning to the end. A gem for its price. Drink now.

Added Apr 15, 2008 at 3:09pmTasted November 2007: Good to very good wine, clearly from a successful Haut-Médoc vintage, but perhaps not for extended cellaring. A classic Pauillac bouquet, fresh, serious but low-keyed. Very structured on the palate, but quite rustic and a bit short of fruit. Good, yet dry aftertaste. For Pauillac aficionados. I gather it will be best from 2009 through 2013.

Added Apr 19, 2008 at 4:04amTasted January 2008: Disappointing. Good colour but rather simple bouquet with thin berry flavours and a touch of green leaves. In the mouth some sweetness and spiceness but overall dry, washed-out and without true character or charm.

Added Apr 19, 2008 at 4:20amTasted February 2008: Now very expensive, at the time a bargain. Although fully mature and not for keeping any longer, the wine has still its qualities. Now fully mature ruby colour, chocolatey and slightly earthy bouquet, in the mouth sweet, ripe, soft, but fading away quickly and somewhat onedimensional. Drink up!
