Spicy and earthy, with the Syrah really shining through. This is a great bottle to pair with any rich beef or game dish, and drinks well on its own, too. The deep aromatics hint at coffee and cacao, without overwhelming the dense fruit at its core. Very, very good. A killer bargain. Four stars, at this price point, at least.

A very good, if atypical Barossa Shiraz. Blueberry and bitter chocolate spar on the nose, with some nice spice notes and earthy leather underneath it all. This one opens up slowly, and is actually drinking better on day two (vacuum pumped).Balanced on the palate, with seamless tannins, hinting at an elegance that never quite fully develops.I'm not a big Shiraz drinker, but wines like this make me believe in the promise of Australia.

Quite good pinot, with distinctive fruit and a hint of floral notes. Solid and good. Not quite as good as a Russian River Pinot, but a decent buy for approx. $20 at Specs in Austin.

Lush, fruity and complex. Spices and hints of earth on the nose. Huge on the palate, explosively flavorful and long lasting. Expensive, but worthy.

Damn near perfect syrah. Intense earth and smoke give a real sense for the terroir of the Sierras. All the wines that Terre Rouge make are great, but this one is especially fantastic. Sure to please the wine snob in your life.

Jammy up front, but a surprising depth below. Leather, smoke and earth complement the deep, rich fruit, and makes for a nicely complex imbibe that will appeal to simpler palates as well. A crowd pleaser, for sure. Killer bargain.

A great, easy going Syrah, with a few years on it. Coffee and earth mingle with deep red fruit on the nose, and the palate is simply divine. It is rare to find a wine of this complexity at this price point ($15 at Specs in Austin). Love it.

This stuff is great! Bold fruit and spice right up front. Great complexity on the nose and palate, with softer tannins and a lasting finish. Ready to drink now, but a few years of cellaring wouldn't hurt. This is a Cab that doesn't need a meal to go with it. Highly recommended.
