Tahbilk 2004 MARSANNE Opened 29/10/09Hard to knock this wine, I have been drinking this wine since it was $6.99 a bottle now it's a little more, but it never fails to please. If you happen to stumble over an older one, buy it and be ready to be impressed: Nose: Honeyed hints of old wood, opening to a clean nose. No sign of spoilage. Colour: Molten straw with a golden green shimmer. In the mouth: I need to state, I drink white wines at a warmer tempter than most people. This wine offers a rich mouth full of soft citrus that cleans the palate with a light acid finish.Dam good booze at a give away price.Still only $17.00

SOAVE TAMELLINI 2005opened 17/10/09A Totally brilliant wine, golden in colour with the softest warm lanolin, honeyed nose.A pleasing gentle acid fills the mouth, in balance with warm Italian lemons that linger on the long silky mineral finish. This wine has improved beyond my exportations, as it was not overly expensive when purchased. Just loved this wine..

Yeasty aromas. Nice nutty sort of characters on the nose. The palate is crisp and zesty with good yeasty complexity. It's a bright lively wine. You get clean bright fruit with yeast on the back palate which persists through to the finish. Well priced at $33.00 AU

HOWARD PARKMargaret River2001 Cab/Sav Opened 15/10/09Dry dark fruit & Old vines on the nose Beautiful dusty dry flavored Cabernet fruit in the mouth; this wine has aged beautifully. There is pleasing ripeness mid palate, the fruit and tannins have softened with age but not faded. This wine rewards cellaring, A wine that was well under $20.00 is now as good as any $50 or $60 wine in the store 96% Cab3% Merlot1% Cab/Franc Good Booze

    Michael at MAX's Review:

Opened 1/10/0932 years oldThis is the last of 12 bottles that I have drunk over the last 10 years some have been better than others all have impressive, when the cork was removed the perfume of Malbec was noticeable at first then faded, the wine had aged fruit flavor clearly of Cabernet, a little dry a bit dusty the tannins are still there but lurking at the end of a watery finish. The wine is quite smooth actually still sound and to my surprise the last glass left in the bottle next day was still very drinkable.Just don't make them like they used to hay!

Rock Ford 1994 Basket press Shiraz 12/10/09This is black Shiraz dark as night; At first I thought this wine was corked, but a more experienced member of the tasting panel assured me differently, well he was right it took about half an hour for the pong to blow away. Good Pinot can smell of cow pad. Good Shiraz should not smell like shit I rest my case.

    Michael at MAX's Review:

2002 GrangeDeep purple. Beautifully concentrated aromas, Rich concentrated berry flavours with oak nuances, firm persistent chocolate coated tannins; that gave this wine the winning edge on the night, yes it was still young but that is what made the wine so lively and fresh in the mouth I voted it, Best wine on the night.

    Michael at MAX's Review:

1990 Grange8/10/09The nose has a pronounced Grange Signature even at this stage, still very drinkable the wine was clearly old but not fading just ageing gracefully, mid weight on the palate the fruit was dry but still had flavour. Others voted it the wine of the night and gave it a high score, either way it was a wine experience worth the wait.
