Added Apr 12, 2012 at 11:46pmOn the drier side, had some nice flavors and for the price I try not to judge too harshly. It could've used a bit more depth of fruit to balance the tannin and acidity.

Added Mar 21, 2012 at 1:26amIt seems almost everything Philippe Melka touches turns to gold and Moone Tsai is no exception. The cab has his wonderfully well balanced touch. Fruit, tannin, acid, wood, all joining harmoniously. This cab isn't for those who are searching for those super-viscous, mega Napa cabs with 15+% alcohol. This cab is medium to full bodied and quite reserved but with many layers to discover. I'm going to be keeping my eye on this up and comer!

Added Apr 11, 2012 at 9:43pmSpicier than the '07, this wine continues to way over-deliver for the money. As always the 424 is dense, concentrated and well balanced with ripe black fruits, heavy spice and pepper notes and subtle earth. Drinking well now and should age well for 10 years or more.

Added Apr 11, 2012 at 8:28pmAn enjoyable WA cab and still a great value but this wasn't the best showing from Gordon Bros. I've had. Still it had nice fruit and firm structure, perhaps a tad too much acidity for my taste.

Added Apr 11, 2012 at 8:15pmFrom one of the most famous vineyards in WA (and for good reason). The wine was tightly wound, still a bit young but showing beautifully already after some needed decanting. Blueberries and indian spcies in the nose as well as a bit of Franc funkiness (in a good way), the tannins are significant giving this wine great aging potential. For now the palette is fairly fruit driven, show blacker fruits than the nose, a bit of minerals to round out the finish.

Lists: Grapes Less Traveled
Added Mar 21, 2012 at 3:20pmWhat the heck is Muscat Hamburg (Black Hamburgh) you ask? Well as a relative to Muscat Blanc (Moscato) it's a very aromatic and flavorful grape and one that deserves to be planted more often. If you've had his Cabs you might not think of Togni as opulent but this wine sure is. Reminiscent of a Beerenauslese or Ice Wine, it is rich and decandent beyond compare. What sets this wine apart from other desserts (besides the obscure grape, or perhaps because of) is the true explosive force of flavor this wine has. This wine forces you to sip slowly are you'll simply be overwhelmed. Everything from roses to black raspberries to allspice to orange blossom honey. If you can find a bottle (only 500 375ml bottles available per vintage) grab it!

Added Mar 23, 2012 at 1:04amAnother knockout Bevan Cellars wine. There's Kirsch, dried herbs, oaky vanilla, cocoa plus a bit of smoke develops as the wine aerates. This is Bevan's drink now wine and as such has just enough tannin to maintain structure but not enough to overwhelm the freshness of the wine. The texture is like chocolate wrapped in velvet and the finish goes on for ages.

Added May 20, 2011 at 9:37pmThis region of Bordeaux may not be the first that comes to mind but this wine could change that! Drinkable now, the nose shows cedar wood, espresso, currants and blackberries. Rich fruit hits you first and then opens up with cocoa, oak, spice box and tobacco. The tannins are perfectly ripe and well integrated provide great structure. Full bodied with a very long finish. Went perfectly with a braised leg of lamb.

Added Apr 11, 2012 at 5:18pmA great little rosso which should make anyone's best value list. This has become my "pizza wine"
