    M Finger's Review:

The output of Domaine Leon Barral of Faugeres is consistently excellent and compelling. Each of the three cuvees fills its own niche and is comprised of a unique blend. This one is made from Cinsault, Carignan, and Grenache (in that order of prevalence), and showcases the both the varietals and the terroir expertly. Black fruits of raspberry and cassis combine with healthy earth and smoke to deliver a very well balanced and charismatic wine.

  • M Finger's Review:

At twenty dollars or less, this is one of the most fantastic wines of its kind available. Sweet earth and restrained spices wash generously over the tongue while the aroma of smoke, chocolate, and an almost imperceptible cedar tantalize the olfactory senses. I highly recommend the 2001 vintage, but the others are excellent as well. If you've never tasted a wine from Minervois (or the Languedoc at large), this would make an excellent first!
