I'm from Scotland but have lived in Montalcino for the last 13 years, immersed in Sangiovese and surrounded by cypresses... I used to have a restaurant (5 tables, 600 wines.. funny we closed after 5 years..) and have been running Il Palazzone since 2003.

Warm, soft on the palate, with good structure and tannins. This is a young estate run by a local family. I am looking forward to their first Brunello...

Added Nov 12, 2009 at 3:46amDark and silky, seductive and complex. Leather, liquorice, succulent fruit. Smooth and long finish. Amazing quality but only to be expected from an estate that gives as much time in wood to their Rosso as the DOCG requires for Brunello (2 years). Viva Piero Palmucci!

The nose is very textured with variegated layers of deep aromas going from cranberry and elderberry before broadening to spice, cinnamon, leather and tobacco. Balsamic notes on the finale. Intricate and elegant with enormous potential for further bottle aging. Balanced and complex in the mouth with a strong character.

Added Jun 11, 2009 at 5:21amDeepest ruby, fruity jammy nose. Bouquet rich in primary aromas, some floral notes and dried fruit. Complex taste with delicate sensations of fruit and jam. Great balance between sweetness and acidity. Chocolate cake pairing a must! La Piana is the only winery on Capraia, a tiny volcanic island opposite Livorno. They have 2,5 hectares, only make Aleatico Passito and are organic....
