Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:52pmThis has been a much championed Australian Shiraz here in the US. Yes, it is complex and enjoyable. the overall weight didn't knock my socks off (like an Elyse Zin would) but the wine is better than average. At $62 I would not consider buying. At $22 it may be worth trying.

Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:48pmWell-knit, cassis-focused Napa Cab. Nice subtle earth and spice notes. A good, dependable wine from a solid winery. Maybe a little light for an '05.

Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:45pmGreat dollar to sinful ratio. Fun. Good crisp focused acidity. Just looking at the bottle makes me crave caviar, toast points and ... more caviar. This is a fantastic NV Brut for the price.

Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:37pmKim Crawford and Cloudy Bay are two of my favorite NZ Sauv Blancs. This one in particular has good grapefruit notes and a bright acidity that make it zesty and delicious.

Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:29pmWhat a gem. The 1986 Mouton was gorgeous the last time I had it. Big and bold, yet the tannins had acquired a softness that was downright voluptuous. The 1985 was also showing well. Overall lighter and more fruit-driven up front, but a real treat also.

Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:26pmSo amazing how different this wine is from the neighboring Volnay by Lafon. I enjoy the light to medium body, complex cherry and earth nose. The "Monthelie" is one of my favorite vineyards in Burgundy. "Taillepieds" is another. Overall, I find Lafon's wines exccellent.

Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:22pmRadio Coteau (Rhone dialect for "Broadcasting from the Hill) makes small quantity, exquisite quality Pinot Noir, Syrah, and ZInfandel. This wine in particular is more similar to a Cab in structure than a typical (Fruity) Zin. Great balancing act of dark fruit, oak, terroir, and approachable tannins.

Added Jul 1, 2009 at 1:18pmOwen Roe makes great wines across the price point spectrum. The Sinister Hand is an approachable new world take on an old world blend. The dark berry and plum tones combined with herbs de Provence hints is wicked enjoyable.

Elderton Shiraz 2005Compare and Buy
Average Price: $30.00
Added Jul 1, 2009 at 12:52pmI have been a fan of Elderton wines for a while. Generally I find that they have a good balance of nose, fruit, weight, and tannin. This Shiraz in particular had a good balance of black fruit and spice. The nuances of clove and vanilla were fun, but an appropriately small part of the whole.
