Added Feb 1, 2013 at 8:12pmA blast of earth, minerals and leather greets you as the inky dark wine swirls in the glass. Entry is just as pleasant for those who prefer an earthier wine. Even some green pepper mid-palate adds to the enjoyment. Despite the quick finish, this can easily be enjoyed alone or with a spicy dish. Would be a great tapas caliente companion.

Cryptic 2010Compare and Buy
Average Price: $15.99
Added Jan 26, 2013 at 6:48pmA decent offering for the price. Minnesota Viking purple. Zinlike in character, nose and finish. Think baked fruit turnover and a cherry slurpee with a somewhat dusty tannic conclusion. The bottle is cleverly dressed and will add whimsy to your party. Again, I'd say a good value overall.

Average Price: $10.99
Added Jan 25, 2013 at 5:17pmProjecting a light purple hue reminiscent of a Jolly Rancher grape candy nugget, this delightful Pinot greets one with a friendly wink and smile. If you enjoy the challenge of finding spice on the nose, you'll love this gem. It's there, give it time. Gives way to a silky mouthfeel as smooth as the isolated vocal track of a Marguerite Juenemann record.

Added Dec 6, 2012 at 10:11pmPerfume nose gives way to acidity upon palate. One can easily acquire a more satisfying Montepulciano at the same price. This one is simply residing in Middletown USA, or in this case, Middletown, Italy.

Added Dec 1, 2012 at 3:02amChose this as my dinner wine two weeks ago when dining with an old friend who was traveling through the area. Having not seen him in over twenty years, I had to endure 2 hours of his graphic and excruciatingly detailed account of a 1998 boating accident in which he lost his left arm. The gruesome yarn put a pall over my experience with this wine. My recollection is that it had a medium body with a lengthy finish, unfortunately neither as lengthy as my friend's tale of woe nor the appendage that now hangs from his left shoulder.

Added Dec 1, 2012 at 2:28amA very approachable wine with loads of personality. the nose greets you with cherry, raspberry jello, tiramisu and tobacco leaf. Entry evokes the tartness of homemade currant jelly or a mixed fruit pie. At just $15 a bottle, it'll make a fine companion the next time you curl up to the poetry of Roberto Bolano and nosh on a quick lunch from Chipotle. Or as I call it, Tuesday.

Added Dec 1, 2012 at 1:37amA splendid offering. Generous berries on the nose with all the earthy undertones one would expect from a South African wine. Full-bodied, this wine treats the drinker to a rich variety of flavor including day old coffee, tobacco, tar and anise. I will run, not walk, to the store tomorrow for my second bottle.

Added Dec 1, 2012 at 1:29amSimply put, this wine is a bit more jarring than it is jammy. Next!

Cupcake Red Velvet 2011Compare and Buy
Average Price: $9.99
Added Nov 30, 2012 at 11:41pmDelightfully deep hue for a simple table red. As dark as a James M. Cain novel, this wine might just be equally as schizophrenic. Is it a Zin? A Merlot? Or do I detect a discreet Syrah? Sip the mystery for under 10 bucks and decide for yourself.

Average Price: $20.99
Added Nov 30, 2012 at 4:43pmThought this might be a good companion for my lamb shank stew. Boy, did I get that wrong. It fell flat on the nose and even more so on the palate. This wine simply stood brooding over my meal with modest wet earth and green pepper notes. The essence of a senior center activity room hung on the finish closing out a rather uninspiring drink. Earns half glass for its utility later in week during cooking.
