Smoky taste and smell. Fairly astringent with a bitter, walnut-like aftertaste.

A lot of sediment. LIke the other 1969 Henri de Villamont, past its prime. Notable taste and smell I'd associate with vegemite.

Fairly hot. Harsh earthy and olive smell. Color had degraded to dark orange. Ok, but well past its prime.

Super charcoal/smoke smelling and tasting. Somewhat floral, but also sour. Possible issues with the fruit? The host of the tasting suggested that 2004 was a wet year and there were problems with the fruit starting to rot early while still on the vine.

Tasted 6/4/2009. Very hot. I got hints of peat and plum. Surprisingly little complexity.

Heavily oaked yet mildly tannic. Not quite as smooth as the 2004 vintage, but well balanced and delightful in its own right. Hints of black and red fruit in the mouth.

Crisp and refreshing with balanced acid and slightly sweet. Fruity and earthy (or herbaceous) on the nose and mouth. A great change from California whites. Goes well with most light food, fish, or light desserts. Also see Acohn's review.

One of the few ports I've had that I really enjoyed. I find that many ports have a raisiny smell and taste. This does not. It was also smooth for the high alcohol content.
