paler and the bronziest of the bunch - classic nose, intense blackberry jam, tar, floral, saffron, pollen - big in the mouth still with some tannin to burn, slightly low acidity, mint and tarragon tinged cherry and orange rind fruit in the mouth, finish is a touch tough at first but smoothes out and lengthens with airing, turns tarrier and really developes a citrussy lemon verbena/dried citrus peel top note, fleshes out wonderfully with air. CdP at peak and the best of the bunch tonight

Powerful nose with deep minerally limestone notes, crisp fruits, freshly tanned leather, hint of ripe herb over a pool of very ripe dark berry fruits. Mouthfilling with lovely ripe acidity framing dark fruits. Very structured midpalate with vibrant acidity that supports a long finish of red fruit that turns dark and tarry. At peak and firmly mature with great freshness, one of my favorite CCR and this shows why.

This realy offered up an impressive nose from the get go with red and black fruits, great minerality. fresh porcini, nettles and a slight peppery spice edge, and a tinge of autumn wood smoke. Layered, complete and intriguing. In the mouth this offered lovely restraint with a resolved texture that framed rich and pure earth tinged fruit with great deliniation. Again this could be called a touch simple though there were ample notes of dried herb leaning towards mint and laurel. This evolved slendidly with a very seductive entry, lovely ripe tannins and integrated acidity that created a poised package that offered less weight than many baroli but was complete. It was so taut across the midpalate i could have played quarters on my tongue. I wish I had more of this yet this was my last, i hink... 2008-2014

Pretty dark with just a bit of lightening to the edge. For a few hours this exhibited an extreme menthol, pine balsam, insecticide nose that obscured any other notes. Eventually some tar and tobacco notes emerged that were later joined by dusty tree bark. In the mouth the wine is taut and tight with gritty tannins and huge power. This never really opened in stark contrast to the last bottle which evolved into a lush and subtle example. This bottle needs another decade.

This was even darker than the 1974 with a dark stewed character on the nose and some bitter, leafy greens notes. With time the dark, almost coal like minerality pops out with a touch of old tootsie roll and carob adding interest and leading to the development of a very fudgy nose. This really had a lovely texture with everything integrated yet balanced, a sense of elegance and proportion with a long finish that reveals echos of the earth, old wood, and spicy red berry fruit that used to populate the palate. Again a bottle with less than ideal fill, very high shoulder but one that retains a very fine sense of what it was and still offers some enjoyment.

This offers up initial blast of alcohol and creamy oak. In the mouth this starts out bitter and tight with intense, slightly smoky strawberry jam with lots of gingerbread tones and a touch of motor oil. This remains a touch hot and seemingly not open. Tight and tough with substantial tannins and that worrying touch of bitterness. Very very extracted with tobacco and coffee dominating the finish. I assume I have caught an angry bottle and will defer rating until I can try it again but based on this I greatly prefer the 2004.

Very autumnal on the nose with notes of coffee, dried flowers, porcini and rust 2 Very austere in the mouth with drying, unripe tannins and a rustic feel 1+ Very evolved in the mouth with autumnal notes of mushroom and beef broth with a bit of a tootsie roll edge 1+ Very drying, austere finishing with bitter coffee grind tannins 1+

This really powers out of the bottle with a nose that is dark and confected with subtle spice, wet rocks and green moss notes all draped against a backdrop of reduced cherries spread on glass to cool. With time some camphor and cigarbox join in. This is very fine in the mouth with crisp tannins supporting a fairly opulent midpalate. great acidity adds depth to the cherry/cherry pit fruit that remains razor sharp through the palate and into the finish. the lithe texture remains fresh with a feathered egde of austerity keeping this focused. Wonderful sangiovese. 2008-2020

nice color if reaching the limits os saturation a bit more matte, oaky and milky at first, shows some mineral notes with hints of leather and smoke over a cola tinged dark cherry core, great acidity up front, dense and chewy, coffee and coca up front after the initial wave of vibrancy, sour cherry notes across the midpalate, medium full body, finishes a bit hot and clipped at the moment with a bit of drying tannin before yielding to a bit of meatiness and a finale of caramel, very well done in it's style but not for me

Dark, dank nose opens with tons of used coffee grind, some dried chili, fire pit and caramel nuances. With air aids some thyme like herb but remains coffee dominated. Full bodied in the mouth with lowish acidity and tons of tannin at first. The core of cherry fruit eventually asserts itself and comes to dominate the midpalate though with a slight medicinal edge that carries through to the shortish finish which also features notes of ginger and red floral tones. Lots of extract and somewhat drying this does have rich red cherry fruit but the package is not what I look for in Bordeaux. 90/100
