Only 5000 bottles of "La Roche" Macon-Vergisson are produced each year. While Decanter has not yet reviewed the 2007 vintage, the acclaimed wine magazine highly recommended "La Roche" 2006, Macon-Vergisson in a blind tasting of 168 wines from the Macon-Village region, rating it four out of five stars (one of only 14 wines in the tasting to receive this ranking). Rich and well balanced with ripe white fruits, minerality and good acidity, the 2007 vintage is expected to be as good, if not better, based on harvest conditions.Wine Spectator has given the 2007 vintage a very favorable review: "This is rich and tinged with oak spice, but also underscored by a vibrant structure. Offers peach, pear, vanilla and clove notes. There's good depth for the vintage, with a lingering finish, 89 points"

The wine region of Mercurey is home to some of the best red wine values in Burgundy. If you haven't mastered the complex AOC's of Burgundy (and really, even among wine aficionados, there are not many who have), you probably have read enough to know that the Pinot Noirs from the Cote d'Or come at a premium and can be hit or miss. But venture further south to the Cote Chalonnais and you can find committed and talented producers making Pinot Noirs with plenty of fruit ripeness, elegance and terroir for under $30.
