    Frugal Wino's Review:

Gnarly Head Old Vine Zin 2006 Lodi ZinfandelWe really like this old vine zinfandel. It's a hit with BBQ ribs. Lots of bang for the buck at $9.99 or so. Big robust aroma on the nose a little tight at first but opens up in the glass keeping you coming back for a sniff. Black cherry, dark fruit & some spice with hints of oak & vanilla as it opens up. Full bodied in the mouth with taste much like the aroma, dark fruit, vanilla spice & oak again gets better as it opens up revealing more layers of subtle flavors.. Lingering spice finish. Some may like to uncork this or decant it an hour before serving.

    Frugal Wino's Review:

First impression - this wine assaulted the mouth. Tart tannin's burnt oak and Alcohol. Lots of heat going down that lingered. We uncorked it about 15min before the first glass. My wife made a face. The label billed it as an everyday wine to have on the table at dinner each night. We had it paired with pasta and a red sauce with garlic bread. We set it aside until the next day. On the second day it had calmed down a bit and was much more drinkable. Light in the mouth, berries, plum and smoke, milder tannin's medium light finish, still some heat on the back palette. A little earth and dust.Recommend uncorking a several hours before dinner. Not to bad after airing out but you can find a better table wine for the same price point.

One of my favorite Chard's despite it's less than 90 rating by Connoisseurs' Guide, Feb 08 (they gave it an 85). Wine Spectator gave it a 90.I give it a two thumbs up!Bright inviting straw color. Pear and floral with a slight toasty oak overtone.Velvety medium body with a lingering finish of buttery vanilla that makes me think of buttered popcorn. I love it.

Very nice with floral & tropical fruit flavors. Nice long silky slightly buttery finish. Best to let breathe about an hour. Not the exquisite buttery finish of a high end Chard but close and it was there. Some similar & higherpriced Chard's just don't have this. Can't go wrong at $10.
