    Eric Guido's Review:

Dark red to almost black in the glass, showing aromas of plum, confectioners sugar, floral fall leaves, coca, roasted chestnut and cinnamon. Cherry cough syrup, raisin, more cinnamon, clove and dark chocolate. It's full and soft on the palate but carried by a hidden layer of acidity that kept it fresh. Long, long cherry, chocolate finish. This was the wow wine of the night.

Dark color in the glass with aromas of black currants, beef broth, cinnamon, and fresh cracked black pepper. The palate shows brambly wild berries, clove and distinct black pepper in the back of the mouth with a firm tannin and acid structure. The finish is very long and enjoyable

The wine was a dark purple color in the glass and wafted aromas of black cherry fruit followed by confectioners sugar, sage, and a bit of nail polish remover (I mean that in a good way) which added a floral perfume and kept me with my nose to the glass for minutes on end. On the palate it delivered big, lush brambly fruit with spicy vanilla and dark chocolate flavors. The Ridge Ponzo Vineyard was a big, structured, rich, full-bodied Zinfandel with a long red fruit finish. It's a wine that will age for years in your cellar but probably only moments in your glass.

A light ruby red color with aromas of bright red fruit, cranberry sauce and a bit of chalk dust. With time the fruit became darker with clove spice and plum. On the palate it showed dark blue fruit, cedar and clove. It's full-bodied and zesty acidity worked wonders ending in a long finish reminiscent of sour cherry cough drops. This was a beautifully nuanced and complex zinfandel that ended up as the majority favorite of the night.

    Eric Guido's Review:

Dark red almost black in the glass and showing aromas of caramel, chocolate sauce, roasted chestnuts and spiced cookie with a bit of fresh latex paint which added an odd complexity that I'm still not sure if I hated it or loved. Very much like one of those childhood smells that appeal in a strange way. A big syrupy giant in the glass that coated the edges and crept down over minutes after swirling but with only 12% alcohol. On the palate I found cherry cough syrup, raisins, roasted nuts, balsamic and dark, dark chocolate all carried by a fresh acidity that kept it all together and far from overwhelming. The finish was long and palate staining.

    Eric Guido's Review:

What a surprise since I picked this up after reading a brief article on Carmignano and thought to taste one. Amazing nose that reads like a basket of red fruit. First it's raspberry, then wild berries and then cherry cough drops followed up by cedar and saddle leather. The palate reveals sour cherries, creme fraiche and clove. Medium body with wonderfully brisk acidity and a nice long red berry finish.

    Eric Guido's Review:

Now this Valpolicella! After three hours in decanter (long decant recommended by producer) this wine showed a nose of sour cherry, florist shop, dark chocolate, sage and and hint of confectioners sugar. On the palate, blackberry with citrus, more cherry and clove with streamlined acidity. A constantly evolving wine with a gorgeous mid-palate that swings from sweet to sour yet stays constantly expanding. Long and slightly bitter finish that reminds you that you're drinking Italian. Beautiful wine but needs the long decant to perform properly.

Orange red amber in color which comes across as slightly more advanced than its age. At first opening an intense aroma of herbal tea with honey and lavender but as the hours wear the details begin to show black olives, dried flowers, tobacco and roasted chestnuts. This gorgeous Barolo glides across the palate and shows a wonderful coming of age for this emerging wine showing olive, meat broth, minerals, mushrooms and a bit of cherry fruit. The finish is long and coats your mouth with cherry, savory broth and minerals. WOW!

    Eric Guido's Review:

Explosive nose of spanish olives and tea leaves with potpuri and french onion soup (seriously). The palate was smooth and full showing sour cherry, tobacco leaf and potato skin. Beautiful long finish that lingers for over a minute. You don't even need to drink this wine to enjoy it, the aromatics are that outstanding.

Dark red, almost purple in the glass. The nose, a little hot, shows spicy red fruit , lead pencil, cedar and with a little more time the red fruit turns to raspberry jam... but one of the best you've ever smelled. On the palate you taste sweet wild berries, cherry cough syrup and oak. Not a lot of varietal character from this glass but great anyway. Long sweet red berry finish. (Gave it an hour opened in bottle before drinking.)
