August 2009
My first bottle of CnfP in a while and now I remember why I love it. This wine has a lovely coloring; pale purple, almost mahogany at the the edges of the glass. Very distinct and forward aroma; gamey, earthy, almost like wet soil. It doesn't do much on the tongue right away, but has a very, very dry finish with some nice depth. The aroma comes out again in the finish. This wine is very "back heavy." I wish it had as much up front, but it is still wonderful. Overall, a most enjoyable bottle, very robust, if a bit backward. I plan to buy another couple of bottles and store them for another few years.

If you drink Malbec, this should definitely be on your list. You almost cannot go wrong with Alamos. The 2008 is very well-rounded malbec and for a great price. Typical malbec-y deep purple color and strong violet/berry aroma. Nice tannins and a really elegant sort of dryness on the back of the tongue that lingers. Unlike some inexpensive malbecs, this has a lovely finish. Granted, there are better expressions of malbec out there, but this is above the average. You must keep a bottle or two around.
