Craig Bilodeau

Location: Plano, TX

Plano area guy using wine as a vehicle for his mid-life crisis. I thought that this would be cheaper than fast cars and hot women (or is it hot cars and fast women?), but that is not turning out to be the case... ;-)

A pale straw yellow color. Clean, crisp fragrance with intense yet elegant hints of quince, green apples, and refreshing citrus fruits. The palette has fresh, harmonious fruit set off by slight sweetness with a long finish full of delicate, tangy flavor.

Ripe plum, black fruit, combined with herbal and smoky notes that give it depth. The palate has lots of cassis and tar, finishing with dry tannins. Drinking nicely now.

Dark purple in the glass. Strong nose with notes of plum and currents. In the mouth, the wine has a bit of acidity with cherries, plum, and a hint of vanilla. The finish is a bit dry and lightly tannic. Nice long finish.

Wonderful blend of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, this powerful wine has a strong nose and would benefit from decanting and sitting a while before being consumed. On the nose is an oaky vanilla with notes of blueberry, plum, black and dark fruit. In the mouth it is meaty and peppery with hints leather, tar, and tobacco. Aggressive, chewy tannins.

Light on the nose with notes of red current and a bit of tar. Smooth on the palate with a medium body, but not very provocative or memorable. Thin, short finish.

I found this to be a very lively quaff with lots of acid and note of red cherry and raspberry. It drinks very much like a zippy pinot noir. Not a whole lot of balance, however.

Wonderful mixture of Tempranillo plum and cherry fruit with gentle, but classic, Rioja oak accents. The aromas and flavors are very nice, sitting atop a texture and structure that makes those flavors sing. It’s luxurious, round, and velvety in your mouth, all without any hint of heaviness. The tannins and acids are more than soft enough for sipping, but have just the right power to pair wonderfully with food.

Red-currants and purple plum are supported by notes of vanilla and a hint of spice, all balanced with a nice acidity that keeps the wine fresh on the palate.
