Amarone Lover's Wines

When I tasted the 2008 Teira Merlot the first thing that came to mind was "Merlot is back!" This Merlot is a great value for the smooth, delicate finish that you expect with a Merlot. What I remember is cedar, strawberry, cherry, vanilla, and a whisper of chocolate. This wine is well rounded and will go great with almost anything.

The 2009 Molly Dooker, Two Left Feet is a fantastic Shiraz, Cab Sav, and Merlot blend. With notes of stewed dark fruits, cherry, roses, and a hint of leather, this wine is so well rounded that you cannot tell that the alcohol content is in the 16% range. It has a silky smooth mouth-feel, seductive velvet finish and that tannic bite that I have only encountered in Molly Dooker’s, Blue Eyed Boy. I am so glad that we have Molly Dooker in Alabama now and I cannot wait to taste more from them.

The 2009 McManis Petit Sirah is a wonderfully round wine with supple notes of blueberry, cherry, vanilla and a soft velvety feel in the mouth. This is one of those wines that you do not need to have it with food to enjoy it. The fruit is well rounded, the alcohol is not very noticeable and the finish is smooth with a touch of sweetness (for a red wine). This is a great into red wine for anyone looking to expand their palate from the typical beginner’s sweet wines.

You hit the nail on the head if you say that this is "Old-World Style", this 2009 PN from Montinore is one of the most well rounded, Burgundian style Pinots that I have tasted in a long while. There is a nice note of cherry with a hint of plumb, raspberry and a subtle smokiness. You can tell that the Bio-dynamic practices are having a very positive effect on the grapes, giving it that truly organic flavor.
