As much as I enjoy the Santa Rita Medalla Real I've drunk from later vintages, this wine was a bit disappointing. An interesting nose of fennel, paprika and lavender promised more, but the fruit dosn't deliver and most of what is left is a mouthful of tannins. My first inclination was to give this wine a 2.5 glasses rating but it improved some with air.

Excellent wine at twice the cost. Blackberry and prunes up front, balanced with mineral notes I can't quite pin to a particular flavor; the right amount of acidity to make it refreshing and plenty of tannins and spice--not too much, though--to finish a very satisfying mouthfull of wine.

Moss, delicate garden vegetables and melon on the front end; light but present tannins on the back. A good wine to serve with oven roasted meats like an eye of round or pork loin.

A very satisfying blend, with a soft base of fruit to introduce some spice, finished with an assertive tannic structure. If you like a good Chianti, you'll probably enjoy this as well.

An interesting and pleasant balance of fruit, minerals, tannin and acidity; it drives right down the fairway without letting any one characteristic of the four varietals present define this tasty blend. For the price it should be good, and it is.

A good wine and a great value; a bit low on acidity for my taste but fine tannins, bold drark fruit and a spicy finish make this an enjoyable wine. I recommend it.

A terrific wine with many powerful flavors pushing around in the mouth, dominated by charcoal and tannins. Really interesting. I'd serve with seasoned meat. Well worth a try.

Well balanced, interesting. Tar and red fruit flavors. Recommend for wide range of meats and roasted poultry. A good value.

Great wine, tannic, benefits from decanting and air exposure. Should age nicely.
