1 Tenuta Costa Lahnhof Pinot Bianco Alto Adige (2010)
Comments: Fairly fruity on the nose but in a lightly tropical, floral way, with fine underlying pear fruit flecked with mineral and salt accents. This is really attractive in the mouth, delivering rich white peach, pear and lime fruit. Bright, almost steely acidity drives the long finish, which is aromatic and full of pear blossoms. Fruity and fairly intense, this is a powerful Pinot Bianco. 88pts

3 Faiveley Montagny (2009)
Comments: Nutty oak, apple fruit and a touch of mango come together on the nose with some sharp mineral hints that add nice focus. Very poised up front, a wave of sweetness from the nutty oak adds volume in the mouth. This has a light caramel/toffee edge to it that many people will find mysteriously appealing. The core of fruit, apple and quince is rich and attractively pure. This finishes with good inner mouth perfumes, apple skins and fresh evergreen notes that add to the fruit and mineral interplay. A lovely white Burgundy from a lesser known appellation. 89pts

4 Kumeu River Village Chardonnay (2009)
Comments: Earthy and perfumed with a gentle yet complex set of aromatics that are slightly herbal with some tea notes. Smooth, refined and bright on the palate, with a touch of lemon rind accenting the core of apple and pear fruit. There’s a nice mineral note on back end, leading to a refreshing, moderately long finish that shows a bit of orange pith with mineral accents. 88pts

5 Waterbrook Sangiovese Rose (2011)
Comments: Fruity on the nose with notes of candied watermelon and raspberry spiced up with hint of cinnamon, stone, and a touch of crushed watermelon seed. On entry this shows some assertive acidity, really lively in the mouth with a little sweetness helping to balance it out on the vividly wild cherry flavored midpalate. This is zesty and intense with tons of fruit showing a flash of creamy strawberry on the finish before the acid kicks back in and lends some savory mineral accents to the long finish. OK, this is not what many people consider a serious rose but boy is this delicious. This would be killer with lightly spicy food. Absolutely delicious. 90pts

6 Finca las Nubes Rose Cafayate (2011)
Comments: Spicy and barnyard on the nose with hints of caramel and teriyaki framing beef jerky, dried orange peel and pomegranate fruit, all topped with hints of white pepper, pine nuts and some acetic acid. What is going on here? In the mouth, this is more straightforward but really lovely. Vibrant acidity and a nice level of richness highlight the core of bright red fruits, which have a faint tropical fruit quality to them. This retains some of the complexity exhibited on the nose and shows a fine savory edge. Ultimately the complexity comes from a certain rusticity this wine has, something I find appealing. 88pts

7 Deponte Cellars Pinot Noir Dundee Hills (2010)
Comments: Spicy on the nose with all many of crushed up herb and flower stems, a little peppery spice, and lovely intense red berry fruit. On the palate this is so juicy with bright acidity and a lightweight open, Burgundian feel. The red fruit is big but not heavy on the palate with very pretty ripeness. The finish is layered with herb and spice notes over raspberry fruit that turns slightly more jammy on the very long finish. This is tight today but it fairly dances across the palate. No doubt this will get better with a few years in the cellar but it is already exciting to drink. 91pt

8 Cantina Terlano Pinot Nero (2010)
Comments: Tight on the nose with gently layered aromatics of red fruit with hints of allspice, flowers, a subtle gamy note and a little mocha oak on the nose. In the mouth this is rather smooth and seamless with super fine tannins and a wonderfully clear midpalate of wild raspberry accented with hints of chamomile, chestnut and something vaguely meaty. It’s a bright, taut style that delivers good depth of flavor and freshness without much weight. The finish is long and very well focused with a touch of oak appearing along with very slightly austere tannins which refresh the mouth. This is delicious. 90pts

9 Oveja Negra Single Vineyard Carmenère (2009)
Comments: Perfumy oak, some nice eucalyptus edge, blueberry. A little Brett, though supposedly not brett and actually character of the cooler climate Carmenere. Leather, animal, red currant. Spicy on the nose, a touch black. Crisp, well focused and almost a bit lean but with plenty of richness emerging on the mid-palate. Spicy, minty and a bit oaky on the short finish. Bit of sweetness, bit of sweet black licorice, vanilla finale. Crisp and a little candied on the finale, easy, spicy, blueberryish fruit. 88pts

10 Apaltagua Carménère Colchagua Valley Reserve (2011)
Comments: Fine, bit of green bell pepper, green peppercorn over lots of very Cabernet black currant fruit. Spicy floral notes, purple fruits, small berries. Bright, very finely balanced, focused, again very aromatic but not as fruity as even I might like. Texturally very fine, soft tannins, nice tension, perfumey fruit, elegant in the light sense. 88pts
