50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot Stoney and sweet on the nose like I’ve been crushing pomegranate seeds and strawberries all day with a leather handled mallet on an old stone counter. Soft on entry, then the acids retain to the palate supporting light strawberry and raspberry fruit. The tannins are very light here, sparse would be better, since they have a gentle bite to them and they build on the finish. This is light and playful in the mouth, and wants some juicy and slightly fatty pork to play with. there’s fine cherry pit and gentle stoney flavors on the palate along with a hint of thyme that leads to the backend and a brisk if short finish. Fun to drink, not complicated, and well suited to pairing with a wide variety of foods. 87pts

  • 89065Gregory Dal Piaz Wine is not all cut and dried. Sometimes a wine strikes you in a way that is not terribly easy to capture in a simple string of adjectives, which also would get more than it's share of complaints. there's no winning here, and if you don't find wines sometimes evocative, than I fear you're missing out.
