1 Hahn Winery Pinot Noir California (2011)
Comments: Fairly oaky on the nose but at the same time this offers up attractive tart red berried fruit though the longer it sits in the glass the more it smells of wood spice and yet there are some underlying floral, grapefruit and cherry aromas that are putting up a fight. Fairly rich and nicely polished , you can sense both the acid and tannin here but the float under the veneer of oak induced sweetness and vaguely jammy cherry fruit that shows a nice forest floor note on the back palate. Everything comes together nicely on the finish with both acid and tannin supporting a fine blend of wood spice and raspberryish fruit. While this may be a bit chunky and obvious it is an amazing value at this price. 87pts

2 Primarius Winery Pinot Noir (2011)
Comments: Very delicate on the nose with lacy aromas of spiced strawberry fruit, freshly turned earth and some used wood. Light and elegant in the mouth this enters with a hint of baby fat but quickly turns taut and transparent in the mouth. the flavors are subtle and recall the tart berry and used wood found on the nose. theres a fine base of ripe supple tannins adding support in the mouth here and they stick out just a touch on the moderately long and simple tart red berried finish but i find that attractive. This is very subtle but that is what many look for in Oregon Pinot. I find this very attractive but others might find it a bit too restrained. 87pts

3 Murphy-Goode Pinot Noir Russian River Valley (2011)
Comments: Pretty richly fruited on the nose with jammy black berry and cherry aromas framed with wood spice and dried herb notes. Rich and a bit chewy in the mouth, this is a fairly powerful Pinot Noir with attractive dried herb and cola flavors accenting the core of meaty black berry fruit. The mid palate does turn a touch hollow as the wood spice replace the fruit on the transition to the finish which is moderately long and fairly spicy with a nice herbal inner mouth perfume. This lacks a bit of focus perhaps but is a fairly classic north coast Pinot Noir. 86pts

4 Windy Bay Pinot Noir (2011)
Comments: Tight on the nose with lightly smoky oak notes over a base of stemmy, rose scented red berry, lingonberry fruit. Simple with immediate and attractive red cherry fruit, this gains some detail and nuance on the palate with lovely hints of dried herb stems and used wood. The texture here is also attractive and while this does thin out on the midpalate before fading on the finish the wine maintains its balance with acid and tannin fading out hand in hand. This has a simple flavor profile but has a very attractive texture. 86pts
