Syrah – Grenache – Carignan Gamy on the nose with iodine streaked aromas of blue plums, macerated flowers and raw beef, though this gains hints of smoke and raspberry fruit as it sits in the glass as well as some fascinating wild herb notes. A touch soft on entry, this is a slightly rustic wine with soft plump fruit paired with tannins that are a bit dry and austere. The fruit on the palate shows more of a wild cherry tone with hints of plum, dusty earth and dried herbs all coming together on the backend. The modest finish picks up some beet root and a hint of herbal bitterness. This really excels with its mouthfeel, which is rich but not weighty nor sticky. It’s a wine that should have very broad appeal to both novice and geek alike. 87pts
