1 Rodney Strong Sauvignon Blanc Charlotte's Home Sonoma County (2012)
Comments: Sweet and intensely floral on the nose with distinctive gingery wood spice and toast notes on the nose over a base of apricot, lemongrass and green apple fruit. A bit soft on entry, there’s fine acidity here but it is wrapped up in a rather creamy and medium full bodied texture. There are very attractive pineapple and clementine flavors early on the palate which gain more of a stone fruit character on the mid palate where the oak spice adds a certain spark. This really has a lovely texture, round, full yet transparent and a bit angular. the wood spice is going to be a dealbreaker for some but for most palate it just adds complexity here and fades away gently on the very lightly vanilla laced grapefruit and creamy green apple finish. 89pts

2 Trione Sauvignon Blanc River Road Ranch Russian River Valley (2011)
Comments: Smoky if oddly delicate on the nose considering the aromas have good clarity and definition with a fine chipotle undertone and soft kiwi fruit and grassy aromas with hints of chalk and peach. Rich yet brightly acidic on entry, this is fairly structured in the mouth with early notes of guava and some old wood element adding detail to the core of quite ripe peach and pear that gains a hint of minerality and some peppery spice on the moderately long finish. This falls somewhere in the middle of the crisp and refreshing to rich and powerful spectrum. 89pts

3 Hanna Sauvignon Blanc (2012)
Comments: Pungent and rich with grapefruit, green tomato, lime, and lemon verbena aromas. This enter the mouth with bright acids that lend a citrussy tone to the palate early in but this gains weight and depth on the mid-palate adding in layers of subtle and clear herb, white peach and almost almond flavors that lead to a moderately long, fresh finish which shows a bit of creaminess to the pineapple, gooseberry and faintly herbal flavors here. This is lovely 88pts

4 Long Meadow Ranch Sauvignon Blanc Rutherford (2012)
Comments: Clear and focused on the nose with a golden raspberry tone to the faintly herbal and slightly medicinal aromas of fennel, lemon pith and stone. This is very broad in the mouth with a very light, gauzy texture. The acidity is well integrated adding a bit of brightness to the core of soft, slightly creamy apple and green plum fruit flavors. A bit of minerality adds some detail to the modest finish. This is understated and quite elegant with a certain air of refinement to it. 88pts

5 Field Stone Sauvignon Blanc Alexander Valley (2012)
Comments: Quite aromatic on the nose with immediate aromas of pineapple, melon, and key lime pie framed with a subtle gooseberry note. Broad and a little softer than I’d like to see, this none the less fills the mouth with a nice blend of berry flavors that recall a blend of gooseberry and unripe strawberries layered over lightly creamy flavors of melon that gains a touch of wood spice on the rather long finish. A bit of an intense style but one with broad appeal. More of a food wine than a cocktail style of wine. 87pts

6 Remridg Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley (2011)
Comments: A little oaky and smoky in a quartzy vein on the nose but at the same time this is quite fruity with sweet lemon curd and peach aromas. Texturally this is quite delicate and light in the mouth with an attractive blend of mineral, lime leaf and pineapple flavors that are small scaled and easy going, finishing with some peach and guava tones on the modest finish which shows some heat and a touch of wood spice on the finale. 87pts

7 Schug Sauvignon Blanc Sonoma Coast (2012)
Comments: Rather fruity on the nose in a fresh guava, peach, tangelo kind of way with the fruit built upon a base of old wood notes. This enters the mouth soft and creamy though there is enough acidity here to keep this lively and fresh in the mouth. The fruit on the palate echoes the nose with attractive freshness and perhaps a bit more of a tropical papaya/pineapple cast to it before it turns melony on the backend and fades into a clean, lightly green fruited finish. 87pts

8 Voss Estate Sauvignon Blanc (2012)
Comments: A little smoky and decidedly grassy on the nose which is pungent and kind of precise with its fine quince and grapefruit aromas. Just a touch diffuse on entry, this is bright and tart on the palate with subtly layered flavors of green herbs, green citrus zest and ripe apple fruit. This is almost silky in the mouth and the balance makes this seem deceptively simple but this is a very complete, subtle bottle that will prove too subtle for some but for my palate this is a great summer sipper. The finish is long and sapid, with a salty edge to the lemon rind flavors. this is delicious. 89ps
