This is intensely aromatic and complex with wonderfully intertwined notes of mulberry, candied bitter cherry, boysenberry, smoke, toast, orange blossoms, cracked pepper, star anise and some low beefy notes. Airing teases out gentle herbal top notes that add to the floral impression the wine gives. I expected the wine to be open, round and lush on the palate must this is big yet really firm and poised. there is no babyfat here, just pure, concentrated mountain fruit with a dark, yet fresh black bitter cherry character backed up with well integrated wood spice and stiff soil tones. The finish is a bit tight yet reveal incipient elegance and the lovely depth this wine has without being a fruit bomb. This has phenomenal freshness and balance with a wonderful interplay of elements that become more explosively aromatic with air. Fabulous Syrah that draws as much from the old world as the new. The finish gains peppery length and finesse with air even though it remains quite firm. Fabulous syrah. 94pts
