Top 5 wines under 15 USD tasted in Rioja

Recently (July 2012) I spent some time in Rioja with two Masters of Wine and a Sommelier doing research for an article for the Swedish wine magazine Allt om Vin. These are my top five semi-budget wines tasted during the visit. Different styles but all are a pleasure! The Domus Dai and TreMenDus were really cheap, simple but enjoyable wines while the Riscal Riserva and the Vina Gravonia are at the upper range of the span. The prices were of course local, so expect to pay a bit more in the US if you can find them!

2	Marqués de Riscal Tempranillo Blend Rioja Reserva (2007) Comments: An excellent classically styled rioja, with beautiful balance and acidity paired with nice black and red fruit. The oak is well integrated. This producer keeps a high level across the board, from "cheap" to super premium and are a good bet if you want to try the different styles of Rioja. 3	Marqués de Riscal White Blend Rueda (2011) Comments: This white wine from the verdejo grape was a pleasant new encounter. It is an excellent, light fresh summer wine - a treat with shellfish or fish with a light sauce. Or just on its own as an aperitif. Herbaceous green notes on a citrus base. Priced around the equivalent of 12-13 USD in Europe. Serve well chilled.		Average price: $9.⁹⁰ from 33 stores	List It

1073671Erica Landin Yes, me too! I have it in another list - this list was only for wines under 15 UDS. My favorite wine of the year was the 1973 Tondonia Blanco. Fantastic!
