23 Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc Viognier (2011)
Comments: Rather clear and precise on the nose, with lemon, treacle, and honeycomb fruit topped with sweet, almost violet floral aromas and a mango top note. Creamy orange and lemon flavors and aromas pop on entry, followed by a nice hint of creamy honey and lightly spicy floral notes with an edge of peach on the back end that leads to a clean, clear and vibrant peach and Meyer lemon finish. This has a lovely texture with just a hint of richness draped over vibrant green plummy fruit. 88 points

24 Banfi Centine Rosso Tuscany (2009)
Comments: Very youthful on the nose is all lightly creamy, spice wood and vanilla framed cut cherry/berry fruit that's topped with a nice violet note. A little light bodied at first, but this really has attractive black cherry and strawberry fruit wrapped in in soft tannins and fairly bright but integrated acidity. Fruity and simple with a touch of a chunky mid-palate that leads to a slight rustic finish. Mostly Sangiovese with enough Cabernet and Merlot to add richness though not enough to obscure the wines Tuscan roots. 87pts

25 Monte da Cal Alentejo (2007)
Comments: A very direct note of sweet, toasty oak almost wrapped in sweet black fruit; but this is just a spice rack on the nose with nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice and dried ginger galore. There is a nice bed of black raspberry fruit lurking under the surface. With air, the spice does dissipate revealing more fruit with an attractive leathery edge. In the mouth, this is a bit stiff with vibrant acids and some imposing wood tannins framing the minerally, tense, almost hard fruit. This is oakier than I generally enjoy but the fruit shows remarkable energy, all things considered. There’s a lot of spicy toasty oak on the back end as well, but the fruit remains there just under the surface. Medium-bodied with a traditional feel and modern flavors, a good wine to try if you like Bordeaux. At this price, a ridiculous value. 89pts
