South of the Border

Been loving the wines of South Africa lately - they're surprisingly good for such a "new" region. The winemakers do a good job of blending the traditional European styles with the juiciness of New World wines. Here are a few good ones I've recently tried.

I don't usually go for wines with funny names, but this one, which is a play on Cote Rotie, is quite good for the price ($16), especially when compared with the $50+ prices of the actual Cote Rotie. Nice balance of funky Syrah aromas and juiciness.
