Sauvignon Blanc Tasted 6/2013

8. Vina Leyda Sauvignon Blanc Classic Reserve (2012)

Pungent and spicy on the nose with subtle layers of green chile, pineapple and tarragon aromas. Bright and direct, this turns slightly rich on the mid-palate with plenty of material and perhaps a little sugar buffering the significant acidity. The backend sees the acidity popping out to the detriment of the modest fruit which mostly washes away on the zesty, moderately long finish. This is nicely aromatic but lacks some depth of flavor. 82pts

  • 451405annwrite I like Duckhorn, Mueller, Joel Gott, Cloudy Bay, but I want to try some of these on the list. Thanks!

  • 345791gentlemanjack45 Merry Edwards 2012 Sauvignon Blanc was amazing; floral, nice perfume, grapefruit, pear, fig, wonderful acidity, complex, good body. Bet you can't buy just one, this one you buy by the case!

  • 1143518Rob Stoddard Clos du Val offers a pleasant and reasonably priced Sauvignon Blanc -- more I think for American palates than for European or Aussie/New Zealand tastes. Even though they're known for their reds, this white is worth checking out. Thanks however for these great recommendations.

  • 1192955shark37 What about Marlborough?

  • 380030lcd123 Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc is always good. I am partial to New Zealand SB, but I'm open to trying some French versions.

  • 77774Lestat11331 Domaine du Rin du Bois from Loire Valley is a wonderful inexpensive Sauvignon Blanc for everyday drinking

  • 1298758macdermid2 Mohua is my favorite, but it's hard to find sometimes. Crisp, with lots of grapefruit, moderately priced. Have also enjoyed Frenzy which is reasonably priced.

  • 1300464Larry16 Fiddlehead Happy Canyon has been my favorite for years.

  • 491306YossiD My perspective is a bit different as I drink almost exclusively Israeli wines. I can recommend these: * Ella Valley SB 2012 - crisp, grassy, refreshing * Chillag SB 2012 (with 5% Viognier) - this one is atypical and very interesting * Barkan Reserve 2012 - typical refreshing SB at a bargain price * Henri Bourgeois Petit Bourgeois SB 2011 - obviously not Israeli but offered at a recent wine festival in Israel. Excellent almost fragile SB. If anyone's interested I've written about these in recent postings on my wine blog (yossiswinepage.wordpress.com). I hope it's ok to say that here - the blog is just for fun, nothing commercial.

  • 77774Lestat11331 For Israeli wines I do prefer the red. Yarden Cab or Galil Pinot Noir.

  • 417157vinomarta Te Kairanga New Zealand SB

  • 77774Lestat11331 Hi Yossi, I do drink Israeli whits, I only prefer the reds. Golan Heights Chardonnay and Moscato are found in my cellar and on my wine list. I also have Shvo Chenin Blanc, Pelter Unoaked Chardonnay, and Golan Moscato. Really good whites

  • 95889FineWineMike SB is my favorite white...favorites include Duckhorn, Groth, Frog's Leap, St. Supery, Rodney Strong Provenance and Ladera.

  • 1297388highnoon Veramonte 'La Gloria' 2011 from Chile @ around $10:00 has that fresh citrus appeal with sidebars of apricot that keeps us coming back again and again. .

  • 1301879MimiCama Love, love Oyster Bay Sav. Blanc

  • 1296095Lorrie503 I love Kim Crawford. Matua Valley is my everyday favorite.
