Heavy, clumsy use of wood or extraction shows up on the dull earthy nose that shows a little tobacco and carob, though this does open nicely with some tomato leaf and herb. Classically medium bodied in the mouth with vivid acidity, clear as a bell on the palate with red fruit, currant and raspberry edged with a hint of green tomato and fine leafy tannins. Those tannins linger on the palate, just a touch rustic, but lending an earthy and deep character to the wine which finishes with excellent length. 87pts
