OK, so this is just sort of a rose, further research has shown this to be a freak of a wine that sees Cabernet, Merlot, petit Verdot, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc blended in neutral barrels. It has over 10 grams of residual sugar and a ph of 3.46,. Just wacky! Intensely aromatic with all sorts of things going on here. Cherries and Worcestershire pop first on the nose followed by green herbs, candied lime, earth and old wood that shows as a hint of BBQ sauce. Just bizarre. Noticeably sweet on entry, then brightly acidic, this has a lovely edge of powdery tannins and lots of lightly candied strawberry and raspberry fruit that turns slightly earthy and dry on the moderately long finish. Say what you may about this but it’s easy to drink and well structured for a light, fresh wine. Not my style but I bet many out there are going to love this. 87pts

  • 1307971Linda Murfin We've been drinking a Nages rose' from France. It is a Grenache/Syrah blend. It's about $12 in Charlotte. It has a very good balance from the up-front fruit all the way through the long finish. It's not too dry but just right for sipping by itself or along with a meal. I like it with a boneless pork rib cut that we put on the BBQ.

  • 103234Mern Wow, you didn't hit on any of our favorites! Mourchon Cotes du Rhone Villages, Laphran-Veyrolles Bandol, Abiouness Nates Rose, Miner Rosato, Fisher Unity, Lasseter Enjoue or Tablas Creek! Now that we have a pool in our backyard this is our favorite thing to share with friends and is perfect with barbecue!

  • 1308265mg39 One of the most satisfying roses I've ever had was last year's Sangiovese from Alexander Valley Vineyards. It was the house rose at one of DC's top Italian restaurants last year, beating out numerous Italian rosado contenders. I haven't found the 2012 version yet, but I'm looking. This year I've been very impressed by a rose using Bordeaux varietals from Kapascandy in Napa.
