Earthy and smoky on the nose with fresh black fruits over base of herbal, floral, and toasty oak aromas. Rather complex with additional nuances of leather, vanilla and red licorice appearing with air. What to make of this? I'm not quite sure, but it explodes in the mouth with acid-driven fruit flavors that are fruity and distinctive. There's so much going on here it's a challenge to take it all in. The fruit shows red plum, mulberry, and cherry flavors supporting both sweet vanilla and caramel notes as well as plenty of peppery spice notes and gentle herbal elements followed by a hint of meatiness. For all it's flavor this is not a thick wine, intense but medium-bodied with tannins that are present but a little austere, lending this a rustic edge. This is fascinating and fun. 89pts
