Off-Dry Whites I've Recently Sipped

Rank Wine Rating Price
1 Francois Cotat Sancerre la Grande Cote (2010)
Comments: A very cool wine, but nowhere near a classic Sancerre and bearing little resemblance to Sauvignon Blanc. With Cotat, it's like Sancerre has moved east to Alsace...will the wine be dry or sweet? Better for paté than asparagus!

2 Christoph Von Nell Riesling Halbtrocken Deutscher Sekt (2002)
Comments: A supremely elegant sparkling Riesling from the Mosel, this is nothing like other Sekt's I've tasted. Whereas many Sekt's are lean on flavor, this one is cram packed.

3 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Alsace Aoc Clos Häuserer (2007)
Comments: An "Indice 4", this wine is actually considered "sweet" by Olivier. Fair enough...but it was so lovely, I had to include it in this list. Everything Gewurz should be - rosewater and lychee on the palate with a hint of unctuousness that never turns cloying.

4 Fritz Haag Riesling Estate Feinherb (2011)
Comments: Gentle residual sugar helps tame the elevated, mouth-watering acidity. The aromas are loaded with baby's breath, soft-stemmed herbs and flint.

5 Kruger-Rumpf Scheurebe Kabinett (2008)
Comments: Bursting with aromas and a touch of sweetness, this is a terrific change from Riesling for a hot summer day. Sage, hazelnut and lemon pulp are just a few of the many aromas to pick up from the glass.
