1 Seguinot-Bordet Chablis V.V (2011)
Comments: 2011 Domaine Seguinot-Bordet Chablis Premier Cru Fourchaume 13% $29 A bit yeasty on the nose, with lots of fresh fruit aromas hinting at sweet peaches and pears over a base of lemon curd with dusty chalk mineral notes and an raw almond edge. This is quite impressive in the mouth, with lots of creamy edges and leesy notes but the vibrant acidity here keeps this fresh and focused. There's a lot of almond-streaked lemon peel flavor here, touched with a hint of pear skin and laden with rocks on the back end and through the long, slightly youthful rustic finish that ends with hints of melony fruit and a little aromatic allspice. 92 points

2 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Premiere Cru Vau de Vey (2010)
Comments: 2010 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Premier Cru Vau de Vey $30 Very floral and high-toned on the nose with super fresh fruit framed by stern notes of crushed rock. This is wonderfully taut and very finely focused in the mouth, with a fabulous texture that is sinewy and transparent. The citrus and stone flavors are clean and fresh, though they lack a smidgen of intensity that may come with time as the finish shows riper notes of apricot and pineapple creeping into the picture. This is easy to love, and a joy to drink. 91 points

3 Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons Simonnet-Febvre (2010)
Comments: 2010 Simonnet-Febvre Chablis Premier Cru Vaillons $20 Tight nose, if a bit waxy, with perfumey hints of hint of spice and fennel over a base of low dusty chalk, dry apple peel and lime pith notes. This shows a surprising hint of spice on entry and remains nice and firm, if broad, on the palate with a tissue-thin lightness to the very lemony fruit. Notes of stones and mineral emerge on the backend and linger on the moderately long finish. 89 points

4 Domaine des Malandes Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir (2010)
Comments: 2010 Domaine des Malandes Chablis $20 Fruit driven with plenty wet stone aromas, and notes of powdery chalk on the nose. On entry this shows very fine fresh apple fruit with a subtle suggestion of sweetness. There are nice acids up front supporting lots of fresh fruit, apples with a little lemon squirt, all delivered with a fine, open knit texture that leads to a long, bright acid-driven finish. This has a great texture and mouthwatering finish, but it is a bit simple. 87 points

5 Hugel Alsace Pinot Blanc 'Les Armours' (2009)
Comments: 2009 Hugel Pinot Blanc Cuvee les Amours Alsace 12% $15 A touch of woodsy-ness greets the nose, followed by mineral and white pepper-inflected white pear fruit topped with a gentle floral tone. A bit of a fruit bomb, in a good way. This packs in vibrant acidity and a modest degree of richness while delivering intense flavors of fresh apple and apricot fruit, with soft melon accents. The finish is rather long and adds in great mineral cut and a gently plummy floral nuance in the mouth. This is really quite impressive and delicious. 90 points

6 Trimbach Pinot Blanc Alsace Aoc (2009)
Comments: 2009 Trimbach Pinot Blanc Vin d'Alsace 12.5% $15 Broad, floral and stony on the nose with some roasted peach or apricot fruit and lots of woodland aromas, all topped with a hint of spice. With lovely balance, this brings bright acidity and a touch of richness to the palate, delivering white pear and mineral flavors early, followed by more floral and peachy notes on the back end. This is quite precise and focused with a snappy, tense quality that drives the moderately long and nicely white peachy aromatic finish. Classic Pinot Blanc. 89pts

7 Tallulah Chardonnay Orchard Avenue Vineyard Napa Valley (2010)
Comments: 42-year old Oak Knoll District Chardonnay vines, native yeasts and limited malolactic fermentation are the basis of this extremely flavorful, well-balanced wine that will appeal to fans of Montrachet. Compelling aromas and flavors of yellow apple skin, mineral, dry cheese rind and delicate baking spice with a full-bodied palate. The mineral-laden finish is long and juicy. 290 cases. 93 points

8 Y Rousseau Russian River Valley Old Vine Colombard (2011)
Comments: The best French Colombard I’ve ever had, it smells of citrus and white flowers on a Spring day. The palate is extremely well-balanced: slightly round on the attack with satisfying body but persistent acidity and a dusting of talc. (Despite its being a white grape, tannins are a hallmark of French Colombard.) Tangy flavors of grapefruit and tangelo predominate.

9 Stepping Stone By Cornerstone Syrah Napa Valley (2010)
Comments: Syrah from the Truchard Vineyard is combined with a 5% share of Carneros Merlot for an approachable yet nuanced wine. Dark flowers are followed by a touch of black pepper, then earthy spice, mineral and dark fruit on the nose. The gentle palate is medium-plus in body with tannins of chalky powder. Attractive flavors of licorice, dark and earthy spice, chocolate and dark fruit gradually give way to a mineral finish. 300 cases. Release date TBD. 90+ points

10 Stepping Stone By Cornerstone "Corralina" Rosé Napa Valley (2012)
Comments: Made entirely from Syrah picked at 22.5 brix specifically for this rosé. The pretty, light-salmon color fits aromas of just-ripe wild strawberry and mineral with delicate floral and spice notes. Soft on the palate – owing to five months sur lie in neutral French oak – with medium-plus body, mouthwatering wild strawberries and persistent minerality. It will be just right with a light lunch by the pool. 500 cases. To be released in late spring. 89 points

11 Tres Sabores Por Que No Cabernet Sauvignon. Zinfandel. Petit Verdot. Petite Sirah Napa Valley Rutherford (2010)
Comments: Aromas of dusty black fruit, dark chocolate and a scattering of dry leaves precede a juicy palate of black cherry, blackberry, chocolate and warm dark spice. Medium-plus body and light-grained tannins. This wine is well-suited to pairing with casual meals or drinking on its own. 50% Zinfandel, 35% Petite Sirah, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 1% Petite Verdot. Mostly French oak, some American, 40% new. 1,980 cases. 89 points

12 Tres Sabores Zinfandel Rutherford Rutherford Estate (2010)
Comments: Zinfandel is the Tres Sabores Vineyard’s signature grape, delivering distinctive and balanced food-friendly wines that are very different from the jammy, heavily-oaked Zins which are so common today. The nose here offers fresh cherries and berries, huckleberry, white nectarine and sweet herbs with just a hint of vanilla. In the mouth, it’s dry and medium-bodied with moderate tannins, very fine and lightly grippy. Flavors include cherry, dark berries, cocoa, coconut and spice. 100% Zinfandel. French and American oak, mostly neutral. 500 cases. 90 points

14 Quady Elysium Black Muscat Wine (2009)
Comments: Black Muscat, another underappreciated muscat variety, is known in Europe as a table grape variety, Muscat Hamburg, one of the very few black skinned muscats. If ripened to about 25 brix, it attains a rose-like aroma and litchi like flavor. This rose-like aroma led us to name the wine Elysium, Greek for heaven. Drinking this, you can almost feel you have fallen into a rose garden and been transported to heaven. Made in the same manner as Essensia, it is used, like Essensia to either accompany or replace dessert. One favorite is to pour the wine onto vanilla ice cream. Serve Elysium Sundae with a glass of Elysium. Great with vanilla, dark chocolate, blue cheeses, and candlelight.

15 Adega Cooperativa de Favaios Moscatel Douro Moscatel Do Douro (1980)
Comments: The Adega de Favaios Moscatel Douro is a sweet wine made exclusively from grapes of the Moscatel Galego variety. A drink of secular traditions in the Douro. Conveys the intense aroma of the variety that it is based and its flavor with hints of honey and jam make it the bastion of Favaios region. A pleasant appetizer or accompaniment to an dessert. 18 Sokol Blosser White Blend Oregon Evolution No. 9 (NV)
Comments: Evolution’s off-dry, somewhat tropical winewith a crisp finish is like no other blend or single varietal wine. We carefully merge Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, White Riesling, Semillon, Muscat Canelli, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Sylvaner. For those keeping score, that’s nine different varietals which add up to a flavor greater than the sum of its parts. Evolution goes perfectly with a hot summer day. But, over the years, we’ve heard that some folks enjoy it on warm spring days, crisp autumn evenings and cold winter nights. They say it reminds them of those hot summer days. As far as food, Evolution pairs well with anything found in a Mexican, Caribbean or Asian cookbook. It likes bold flavors and spice.

20 Mauritson Sauvignon Blanc Dry Creek California Wine (2006)
Comments: One of the best domestic sauvignon blancs I've had in a long time. Blessed be, no oak. Fresh and grassy, but not assertive in the way of a NZ SB. Instead, warmer melon, meyer lemon, and clementine flavors accompany the grassy notes. Very nice. Would definitely buy again. Thanksgiving pick. $15.00

21 Schug Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir (2010)
Comments: Sweet wild berry and wild strawberry aromas are joined by hints of smoke and herb stem. This is a light-bodied, picnic style wine with small tannins and a hint of iron on the palate, which shows a fine peppery edge to the core of cherry and strawberry fruit. Easy going, with a nice finish that shows some earthy, forest floor complexity and a little minerality on the finale. 87 points U$ 24

22 Schug Carneros Pinot Noir (2010)
Comments: Oaky and herbal on the nose with attractive bitter almond nuances and some smokey, almost meaty top notes over stony cranberry and raspberry fruit. Very smooth and supple in the mouth, this is soft and round with lovely cherry, red currant and raspberry fruit flavors backed up by well judged oak spice and a nice hint of wild herbs. The finish reveals a hint of tannin adding a touch of texture, but is otherwise long and driven by cranberry, apple and raspberry fruit that shows a hint of minerality. Finishes with a bit of spice and sweet red cherry fruit. 88pts The spicy nose shows a little sweetness with red berry, cranberry and cherry notes over a nicely integrated toasty oak base note, all topped with hints of watermelon and rose petal. This shows off big tart wild cherry fruit on entry, followed by a lovely core of cran/raspberry fruit, flecked with gentle hints of earth, herb and mineral. There’s some very clean fruit here, with a clear mouthfeel that’s surprisingly fresh (from the nose I might have expected more sweetness). Just lovely, fresh and pure Pinot. 89 points Creamy vanilla nose with red berry fruit. Pretty substantial tannins on the body for a pinot, and not as acidic as many others. Overall it's very smooth, pulls in some nice kiwi and stone fruit on the palate U$ 21

23 Porter Creek Carignane Mendocino County Old Vine (2010)
Comments: Bitter apple, oil, shale, and juniper show lovely purity, freshness and intensity on the nose, with hints of gamey meats and nuanced, slightly smoky dark berry fruit topped with a hint of tar and lots of wild plum. In the mouth this is a bit rustic with firm but well judged tannins, but the masses of wild plum up front, followed by pure bright acidic red berry fruit, quickly buffer the tannins. This is a superbly honest wine with just has a touch of richness on the back end, and while it really has a drop dead gorgeous nose, it is a bit simple in the mouth. Still I would willingly drink a lot of this. 89 points U$ 21

24 Alamos Torrontes (2011)
Comments: $9 Intense balsa wood, lemon, pollen and spicy nettle-toned floral aromas greet the nose. Rich and slightly soft in the mouth, this shows a subtle sweet, honeycomb edge to its slightly gamy, tropical Lifesaver fruit flavors. There's a touch of pineapple here as well as a hint of coconut cream, all layered over some orange-toned kiwi base notes. There's a hint of bitterness that shows up on the back end and lingers on the moderately long floral finish. Not my style, but well done. 87 points

25 Boeckel Sylvaner Mittelbergheim Vieilles Vignes (2009)
Comments: $17 Stony and savory on the nose with a hint of dried apple peels over a base of meaty and slightly minty green plum fruit. Smooth and polished in the mouth, this has a lovely texture, supple and velvety with flavors that are rather low in the mouth, showing flashes of green apple, green plum and light stemmy herbal notes. The finish is a bit short and simple, showing a hint of bitterness and cider apple flavors that serve as nice contrast for the relative sweetness of the palate, but this does go down easily and should be a cinch to pair with food. 87 points

26 Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc Viognier (2011)
Comments: $12 Rather clear and precise on the nose, with lemon, treacle, and honeycomb fruit topped with sweet, almost violet floral aromas and a mango top note. Creamy orange and lemon flavors and aromas pop on entry, followed by a nice hint of creamy honey and lightly spicy floral notes with an edge of peach on the back end that leads to a clean, clear and vibrant peach and Meyer lemon finish. This has a lovely texture with just a hint of richness draped over vibrant green plummy fruit. 88 points

27 Bastianich Friulano (2010)
Comments: $ 14 . Smokey and floral on the nose with hints of brie, dusty minerals and lots of chalk and a touch of green herb. On entry this feels just a touch loose, but it firms up nicely, wrapping a creamy gauze of pear and apricot fruit around a spice of mineral and bitter almond flavors. There's nice weight here, but it remains refreshing, with a zesty, rather long almond and mineral finish. 88 points

28 Terredora di Paolo Falanghina Campania IGT (2010)
Comments: $14 . Richly aromatic, with warm orchard fruit and slightly tropical citrus aromas accented by a nice sweet floral note. Moderately rich on entry, this shows fine tension between the fine base of sweet citrus fruit and sharper floral and mineral notes, gaining a hint of smoke and a touch of bitterness on the back end. This is refreshing without being overly acidic and shows good richness for a medium-bodied white wine. Great for white fish. 88 points

29 Bardolino Chiaretto Rose Bardolino Chiaretto Rose Weingut Az. Agr. S. Cristina Zenato-San Benedetto Lugana (2011)
Comments: $14 . A nice suggestive sweet edge of baked apricot and lemon tart greets the nose followed by hints of jasmine, ginger and wild flowers. Relatively light-bodied, this is aromatic in the mouth, with a lovely spine of citrus flavors accented with hints of bitter apple, pollen and a touch of almond and orange rind. The finish picks up on the pithy flavors, extending the finish with lemon and lime notes. 88 points

30 Capestrano Verdicchio Verdicchio di Matelica (2011)
Comments: $ 10 . This smells of big ripe peach and stinky volcanic soil all covered in a bit of cheese ring. A bit tense and firm in the mouth, this opens with assertive earthy, mineral notes followed by gentle white fruits suspended on a rather angular frame. There's plenty of cut on the palate, with a hint of tannin that drives the medium length, dusty dry and refreshing finish. Not a fruity wine, this is a bit simple and subtle but beautifully built. A really fine food wine. 87 points

31 Baglio del Sole Inzolia Sicilia IGT (2011)
Comments: $ 11 . Waxy and lightly smoky on the nose with a nice base of grapefruit, topped with floral and orange oil aromas. It's almost medium-bodied and easy to drink, with a lovely touch of astringency on the finish that refreshes the palate. 85 points

32 Bedrock Wine Company Bedrock Zinfandel Old Vines Sonoma County (2011)
Comments: $22 . Dark, earthy and spicy on the nose, with nuanced sweetness from the oak accenting the dark, sweet black cherry and plum character. With time the oak becomes a touch more obvious, yet it remains very well-balanced. A touch heavy on entry, this is a weighty Zin with super acidic support. The flavors are much like the nose, on the darker, sweeter end of the spectrum with some café au lait notes and lovely bramble notes adding freshness, but the depth and richness of fruit shows through here. The finish too shows a rich plummy quality. Powerful yet a bit monolithic, this might improve over the short term, but probably should be consumed by its fifth birthday. 89 points

33 Quinta Do Casal Branco White (2012)
Comments: 14.00 Flavors of apple with clear lemon juice accents dominate the mid palate along with very subtle wood tones that lead to a finish which gains a bit of a spicy undertone. This feels young and I bet it improves over the short term but it’s already fabulous. 90pts

This has excellent potential to improve in the cellar. A bit of a revelation. 92pts
