Malbec Around the World

Rank Wine Rating Price
1 Trapiche Malbec (2010)
Comments: You know, for an inexpensive Malbec this is a pretty great value. Definitely fruity and food-friendly. Bit of a toasty kick. Would be good as a party wine for casual sipping.
Average price: $6.57 from 156 stores

2 Route 40 Malbec (2009)
Comments: Very full bodied and concentrated. Dark cherry Dr. Pepper kind of feel. Slightly bacony and cedary. Wasn't bad, wasn't great. Maybe needs a nice steak to go with it.

3 Shinn Estate Vineyards Malbec North Fork (2007)
Comments: This is a deep, concentrated version of this varietal release. While it's intense, it manages some restraint in flavors so nothing is overpowering. Black fruits, coffee, earth and chocolate all harmonize on the palate. Too bad there were only 500ml and it was gone!
